The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) is now accepting applications for the 2025 WACSI Node Nigeria Next Generation Internship. This internship offers young professionals and recent graduates a unique opportunity to build their capacity, deepen their civic engagement, and gain practical experience in civil society work.

About WACSI

The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) is a regional non-governmental organisation committed to strengthening the effectiveness, sustainability, and impact of civil society organisations across West Africa. Since its inception, WACSI has supported the growth of non-profit institutions through training, research, and advocacy initiatives that enhance their ability to drive development in their communities.

WACSI Node Nigeria

In November 2022, WACSI established its Node Office in Abuja to better serve civil society organisations in Nigeria. The Node provides targeted capacity development, technical assistance, and policy support to local CSOs, ensuring they are better equipped to address national and regional development challenges.

Internship Objective

The Next Generation Internship at WACSI Node Nigeria aims to nurture young talents who are passionate about civic engagement and social transformation. The selected intern will work closely with WACSI’s team to gain hands-on experience in programme planning, implementation, and research, contributing directly to the organisation’s ongoing initiatives.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess at least a first degree in International Affairs, Political Science, Public Policy, Law, Development Studies, or any related discipline. They should demonstrate a strong interest in civil society operations, non-profit management, or public policy advocacy.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong research and writing abilities
  • Proficiency in English (fluency is an advantage)
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Duration and Location

The internship will take place primarily at the WACSI Node office in Abuja, Nigeria, where the intern will actively participate in programme coordination and policy-related initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct desktop research on key policy and legislative issues.
  • Gather information and prepare reports and briefs for policy meetings.
  • Assist in organising workshops, dialogues, and advocacy meetings.
  • Contribute to the development of policy advocacy training tools.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the Node team.

Internship Support

WACSI will provide interns with a monthly stipend to support their living expenses during the internship period.
