Applications are now open for the 2026 WACSI Next Generation Internship Programme. The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) is inviting passionate young graduates and early-career professionals from Ivory Coast, Guinea Bissau, and Sierra Leone to apply for its Next Generation Internship Programme (NGIP). This fully funded six-month internship will take place in Accra, Ghana, from January to June 2026, offering participants an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Capacity Development, Policy Influencing and Advocacy, and Knowledge Management. The programme aims to empower young Africans with the skills, knowledge, and civic awareness needed to drive sustainable development across West Africa.

The West Africa Civil Society Institute is a regional non-governmental organisation committed to enhancing the effectiveness and sustainability of civil society organisations (CSOs) in the region. Since its establishment, WACSI has played a central role in strengthening civic engagement and promoting good governance across West Africa.

About the Next Generation Internship Programme (NGIP)

Introduced in 2008, the Next Generation Internship Programme was developed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical experience for young West Africans. The initiative provides a structured and immersive learning experience for fresh graduates and emerging professionals, giving them exposure to WACSI’s key areas of work.

Throughout the six-month internship, participants will engage directly with WACSI’s programmes, gaining valuable insights into leadership, programme management, policy engagement, and civil society strengthening. This experience equips them to address the region’s most pressing socio-political and development challenges.

Who Can Apply

Minimum Requirements

• A first degree in International Affairs, Political Science, Public Policy, Law, Development Studies, or any related discipline.
• Demonstrated interest in civil society, governance, or non-profit organisation management.
• Strong communication and writing skills.
• Proficiency in English, French, or Portuguese, with working knowledge of at least one other language preferred.

Internship Benefits

This internship is fully funded by WACSI. Selected interns will receive:

• Round-trip flight tickets from their home country to Ghana.
• Furnished accommodation in Accra for the duration of the programme.
• Lunch on working days and a monthly stipend.

Important Notes

• The internship will run from January to June 2026, with full-time engagement required at WACSI’s office in Accra, Ghana.
• Interns who are unable to complete the six-month programme will be required to refund the total cost of the internship package.

Job Role and Responsibilities

Selected interns will work closely with WACSI’s various departments and contribute to programme implementation, research, and administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the design and implementation of institutional assessment tools, training sessions, and technical support initiatives.
• Participate in programme planning, project development, and proposal writing across multiple units.
• Provide administrative and logistical support, including tracking budgets, maintaining activity calendars, and assisting in event coordination.
• Serve as a liaison between WACSI and external partners, including resource persons, associates, and beneficiaries.
• Assist in developing training materials, including toolkits, manuals, and indigenous learning resources.
• Conduct research and data analysis on ongoing programmes, producing briefs, reports, and fact sheets.
• Draft concept notes, project reports, and budget proposals for ongoing initiatives.
• Carry out desktop research on policy and legislative issues relevant to WACSI’s mission.
• Support the preparation and facilitation of policy advocacy meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
• Contribute to the development of policy advocacy tools and knowledge resources.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Head of Unit.
