Nigeria Prize for Literature 2024 Calls for Submissions

The NLNG Nigeria Prize for Literature is expected to enhance the quality of writing, editing, proofreading, and publishing in Nigeria, thereby positively impacting print, broadcast journalism, film, and theatre production. The competition follows a four-year cycle, focusing on Prose Fiction, Poetry, Drama, and Children’s Literature. In 2019, the winning book was “Boom Boom” by Jude Idada in the Children’s Literature category.

Nigeria Prize for Literature Criteria

  • To participate in the competition, only Nigerian writers, regardless of their place of residence, are eligible.
  • Each author can submit only one published work, and unpublished works will not be considered.
  • Previously submitted books cannot be resubmitted, even with major revisions or new editions. The prize is awarded solely based on excellence.

Nigeria Prize for Literature Eligibility

  • Members of the Advisory Board, Panel of Judges, and their families are prohibited from entering their own works during their service period and for two years thereafter.
  • Entries from Nigeria LNG Limited staff and their families will not be accepted.
  • It is important to submit the entry before the specified deadline, as late submissions will not be considered.
  • Failure to meet the stated conditions will result in disqualification.

Nigeria Prize for Literature Application

  • To submit an entry, applicants must complete an application form available on The Nigeria Prizes website, www.thenigeriaprizes.org.
  • The completed form should be printed and submitted along with twelve (12) copies of the entry and an e-copy.
  • Additionally, evidence of a Nigerian passport or National Identity Card should be provided.
  • The books should be sent to Nigeria LNG Limited’s External Relations Division, the organizers of the prize, by the stipulated deadline.
  • Books published before 2021 will not be accepted.
