Entries open for the Swedish Institute Pioneering Women in STEM Scholarship
Applications are now open for the 2026 Swedish Institute Pioneering Women in STEM Scholarship, a fully funded opportunity designed to empower exceptional women from Africa and Asia to pursue master’s studies in Sweden. This prestigious scholarship supports visionary women who aspire to lead innovation, solve complex global challenges, and drive progress toward sustainable and inclusive societies.
Funded by the Swedish Institute (SI), the scholarship provides full financial support for one- or two-year master’s programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) at top Swedish universities. About the Scholarship
The Pioneering Women in STEM Scholarship is an annual initiative aimed at supporting women who demonstrate leadership potential and a passion for using technology and science to create meaningful change. It is open to female citizens of specific countries in Africa and Asia, with master’s programs beginning in the autumn semester of 2026.
Applicants are encouraged to select from a curated list of eligible English-taught master’s programs across Swedish universities, which will be announced in mid-November 2025
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must:
* Identify as female and be citizens of one of the **10 eligible countries**: **Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Thailand, or Vietnam**.
* Apply to an eligible **STEM-related master’s program** in Sweden.
* Be **liable to pay tuition fees** at University Admissions (check eligibility [here](https://www.universityadmissions.se)).
* Have a **strong academic background** and **demonstrated work or leadership experience**, either through employment or engagement in civil society.
* Not have previously received a Swedish Institute scholarship or earned a degree from a Swedish institution.

Eligible Master’s Programs

Application Through University Admissions

Scholarship Benefits

* A **monthly living allowance of SEK 12,000** to support daily expenses.
* A **one-time travel grant of SEK 15,000** (not applicable to students already residing in Sweden).

* **Alumni membership** after graduation, providing continued professional growth, mentorship, and global exposure.
Important Notes
The scholarship **does not** include:
