Our Documentary Film Fellowship has returned for its third edition! We are seeking four dedicated and passionate professionals who are eager to develop impactful stories with the assistance of industry mentors and financial support.
About the Fellowship
The 2025 Documentary Film Fellowship is a four-month intensive program focused on training, production, and mentorship for Nigerian documentary filmmakers. With expert advice, funding, and a well-structured development process, fellows will create a 15–20 minute original short documentary.
This initiative is fully funded by the French Embassy in Nigeria and is conducted in collaboration with esteemed Nigerian mentors and international industry specialists.

- Program Duration: August – November 2025
- In-Person Workshop: First week of August and November (Lagos)
- Ongoing: Virtual mentorship sessions, check-ins, and masterclasses.

- Production Grant: ₦2,000,000 to create a documentary film
- Mentorship: Gain insights from Ike Nnaebue (Director, No U-Turn) and Chika Oduah (Award-winning Journalist & Filmmaker)
- Training: Engage in practical workshops, storytelling labs, and personalized editing sessions
- Global Exposure: Have the opportunity to showcase your film at an international documentary film festival in January 2026 (subject to merit and project readiness).
Who Should Apply? – StoryMi Academy Documentary Film Fellowship for Nigerian Film Makers
- We are seeking professional filmmakers located in Nigeria who meet the following criteria:
- Dedicated to non-fiction storytelling (no fictional works or reenactments)
- Available full-time from August to November 2025
- Skilled in filming, editing, or producing (you will specify your areas of expertise)
- Enthusiastic about conveying urgent, local narratives on topics such as identity, environment, history, culture, or social issues.
