Applications open for the Women in News Global Leadership Accelerator Programme
Applications are now open for the Women in News Global Leadership Accelerator Programme. The WIN Global Leadership Accelerator is currently inviting applications for its transformative program, which is tailored for high-potential mid-level newsroom managers (journalists and editors) hailing from emerging, transitional, and fragile states across the globe.
Journalists who are passionate about the news industry and possess a minimum of 5-10 years of active experience in the newsroom are encouraged to apply. The Leadership Accelerator is backed by a skilled team that includes directors, country managers, coaches, mentors, and trainers, most of whom have direct experience in newsroom leadership and media management. Additionally, guest trainers and experts from WAN-IFRA’s global network of media executives are invited to support or contribute to the leadership and career development of participants, having been selected at a global level for their expertise.

- Those who are accepted into the program will receive training on essential newsroom and media management topics, while also building a global network of peers.
- Participants will further benefit from personalized coaching sessions with an ICF-certified coach to develop their 3-5 year career roadmaps.
- This program is impactful, yielding measurable results: on average, 60% of successful graduates report direct career advancement (either a promotion or a lateral move of their choice) within three months following the completion of the program.

- Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion with a professional designation from WAN-IFRA.
Eligibility – Women in News Global Leadership Accelerator Programme
- The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- – 5-10 years of direct newsroom experience as a journalist (reporter, correspondent, editor)
- – A demonstrated passion for the news media industry along with a commitment to gender equality and inclusion, as well as the principles of press freedom
- – Identification as a woman and/or belonging to a historically vulnerable or at-risk community
- – Residence outside of the traditional WIN Accelerator markets
- – Proficiency in spoken and written English (the program will primarily be conducted in English)
- – The ability to dedicate 1-2 hours per week for 21 weeks to fully engage in the program (candidates who miss more than 20% of seminars will receive an incomplete)
- The required time commitment for this 21-week program is 1-2 hours each week for a total of 20 weeks.
NOT Eligible – Women in News Global Leadership Accelerator Programme
Please be advised: Individuals from the current WIN countries are NOT eligible for this programme at present. If you hail from any of the countries enumerated below, kindly remain attentive for the 2025 WIN Accelerator application call later this year. The NOT Eligible countries are:
- Africa: Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe
- Arab Region: Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon
- Southeast Asia: The Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar
