Before the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the UNCCD, the Convention Secretariat is arranging a UNCCD Training workshop for French-speaking journalists covering the African continent on desertification and the media’s role in promoting sustainable land management practices.

The training is scheduled for September 2-6, 2024, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, alongside the 20th African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN). Journalists will have the chance to interact with experts in sustainable land management and desertification, as well as participate in a field visit.

The workshop will focus on addressing concerns related to land degradation, desertification, and drought, along with the media’s role in these issues and specific strategies for better coverage.

Eligibility for the UNCCD Training workshop for French-speaking journalists

1. The opportunity is available to journalists who are fluent in French and have a passion for environmental issues.
2. All applicants are required to provide a letter of recommendation from their organization’s editor-in-chief. Freelancers must also include a copy of their press card.
3. Additionally, a one-page cover letter explaining the journalist’s interest in the workshop, along with links or copies of their three most recent reports or publications on the subject, must be submitted.
4. Complete application files should be sent to [email protected] by 11:59 pm Central European Time (CET) on 21 July 2024, with the subject line “Candidature pour l’atelier d’Abidjan”.
5. Successful candidates will receive notification via written correspondence.
