Safety/Security and Health/Environment Officer Needed at Save The Children

Safety/Security and Health/Environment Officer (SSHE) at Save The Children will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of all staff, consultants, visitors, volunteers, vendors, and beneficiaries in Lagos. They will contribute to the development and implementation of Safety and Security Policy, standards, and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for everyone involved in Save the Children’s programs.

ROLE AND PURPOSE: Safety/Security and Health/Environment Officer (SSHE) at Save The Children

  • Under the supervision of the Field Manager in Lagos, as well as the Safety & Security Coordinator and the Head of Safety and Security in the country office, the SSHE Officer will monitor, report, and document compliance with SSHE standards by all staff in the Field Office. This includes ensuring that all necessary safety measures are in place and that staff are trained and equipped to respond effectively to any potential risks or emergencies.
  • By working closely with the team, the SSHE Officer will help to create a culture of safety and security within the organization, ensuring that all staff are aware of and adhere to the necessary protocols and procedures. This will contribute to the overall safe programming in Lagos and support the successful implementation of Save the Children’s programs.
  • The SSHE Officer will also provide support for the implementation of SCI programs in the Lagos Office, particularly in relation to health and environmental considerations. This may include supporting the delivery of maternal, newborn, and child health services, as well as promoting and monitoring compliance with health and safety guidelines.
  • Overall, the role of the SSHE Officer is crucial in ensuring the well-being and security of all individuals involved in Save the Children’s work in Lagos.

Key Responsibilities: Safety/Security and Health/Environment Officer (SSHE) at Save The Children

1. Support the Head of Safety and Security and Security Focal Point in gathering and organizing safety and security information throughout the mission using appropriate software and hardware.
2. Assist the team in Lagos with trip planning activities, including tracking movements, ensuring compliance with travel Standard Operating Procedures, and reporting any issues or delays.
3. Aid in the preparation of safety and security reports for the Lagos team.
4. Collect, collate, and report incidents related to health, safety, security, and the environment both internally and externally.
5. Assist in conducting safety and security trainings and programs in the Lagos office.
6. Monitor Fleet activities and report any breaches.
7. Undertake any other duties assigned by the Security Focal Point and Head of Safety and Security to ensure effective safety and security management in the Country Office.

  • Minimum of three years of experience handling Health, Safety, Security, and Environment responsibilities.

  • Display proficiency in Internet and Microsoft Office applications, as well as other database/mapping tools.
