Shell LiveWIRE aims to provide more opportunity for youth to reach their full potential by starting and growing their own enterprises. These companies will support towns with happier youth populations and a more robust economy.
The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited is a sponsor of the youth entrepreneurial development initiative LiveWIRE Nigeria (SPDC).
What Nigeria wants to accomplish. The LiveWIRE Program in Nigeria aims to accomplish the following:
- Encourage final-year university students to consider starting a business as a viable career option by increasing their awareness of business.
- Bright Ideas Workshops can help young people find and develop company “ideas.”
- Provide business planning and management guidelines and skills through the Become A Successful Owner Manager Course (BSOM) to young people who wish to launch their own businesses.
- Give out prizes for the best business concepts; the winnings can be used to acquire microcredit facilities from banks, non-profit organizations, and affiliated financial institutions.
- Give out an award every year to young people who have maintained a business for two to three years.
- For individuals who have finished the training course and choose to pursue launching their own business, offer a volunteer mentorship program. One can find mentors in the banking, oil and gas, social volunteer, and other areas.
- Print off and distribute young enterprise information from the LiveWIRE Resource Center.
- Youths between the ages of 18 and 30 are the intended beneficiaries.
Program Description
The program, which is based in the Niger Delta, seeks to assist, motivate, and inspire young people in the Nigerian states of Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Akwa-Ibom who are between the ages of 18 and 35 to launch their own enterprises.

Eligibility
- Are you aged 18 – 35 from the Niger Delta states?
- Indigenes of Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Imo, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River or Edo States and who must be residents in their state of origin.
- Do you have an innovative business idea?
- Do you desire to own and manage a business?
- Do you possess a University degree or HND in any discipline?
- Have you completed NYSC if applicable?
- Not in paid employment
