Now Accepting Applications: Union for International Cancer Control Fellowships
Applications for the 2024 Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Fellowships are now being accepted. UICC’s Technical Fellowships offer cancer professionals the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, skills, and techniques in cancer control through short learning visits lasting from two weeks to two months. Originally established in 1976 as the International Cancer Research Technology Transfer awards (ICRETT), this fellowship program has promoted knowledge exchange for over forty years.
Objectives of the Union for International Cancer Control Fellowships
1. Facilitate the international exchange and advancement of technical knowledge and skills in cancer control.
2. Enhance the capacity of individuals and their home organizations by effectively applying and sharing newly acquired skills upon their return.
3. Support the creation of networks among cancer control professionals to encourage the ongoing sharing of best practices, knowledge, and informal support, guidance, or training.
Eligibility for the Union for International Cancer Control Fellowships
- – Public health professionals, including epidemiologists, health educators, social workers, nutritionists, administrators, and other specialized professionals in the field of cancer control.
- – Cancer researchers engaged in translational, clinical, and/or implementation research.
- – Clinicians, nurses, and pathologists.
- Applicants must possess at least a Master’s degree. However, qualified medical doctors without a higher degree (e.g., MD) may be considered if they hold or are close to obtaining board certification (or equivalent) in a cancer-related specialty.
- Registered nurses with an RN qualification are also eligible to apply.
- Additionally, a one-year training qualification in a specialty related to cancer post university degree can be considered equivalent to a Master’s degree, such as training as a cancer registrar.
- All candidates must have a minimum of five years of experience working in the field of cancer before applying.
Duration of the Union for International Cancer Control Fellowships and awards
- Two weeks – 2,200 USD*
- Three weeks – 2,800 USD*
- Four weeks – 3,400 USD*
- Five weeks – 4,000 USD*
- Six weeks – 4,600 USD*
- Seven weeks – 5,200 USD*
- Eight weeks – 5,800 USD
- If chosen, the UICC will determine the grant value by considering the length of the requested fellowship visit, the officially reported average living expenses in the host nation, and an approximation of the economy class travel expenses from the home country to the host country.
