Entries open: United Nations Academic Impact and MCN Millennium Fellowships

The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) in partnership with the Millennium Campus Network (MCN) is now accepting applications for the 2026  United Nations Academic Impact and MCN Millennium Fellowship, a globally recognized leadership development program that empowers undergraduate students to elevate their social impact projects. The semester-long fellowship offers participants a transformative experience designed to strengthen leadership, collaboration, and innovation skills, while advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on campuses and in communities around the world.

This prestigious programme brings together young changemakers from over 100 nations, providing them with access to world-class training, a global network of peers, and recognition from the United Nations Academic Impact and MCN. It is an opportunity to turn passion into tangible action and local initiatives into sustainable global movements.

About the Millennium Fellowship

The Millennium Fellowship runs directly on university campuses, allowing students to learn, collaborate, and lead within their local contexts while connecting with a global community of future leaders. Each selected university forms a cohort of 8–20+ Millennium Fellows who work together throughout the semester to design and execute projects that align with the SDGs and the UNAI principles.

The program follows three key stages — Convene, Challenge, and Celebrate — each designed to foster collaboration, critical thinking, and measurable impact.

Convene:
Fellows meet in-person at least eight times over the semester to learn from one another, exchange ideas, and refine their impact strategies. These sessions are opportunities to build solidarity, accountability, and leadership within the cohort.

Challenge:
Students work together to develop an actionable plan aimed at addressing social or environmental challenges in their local communities. Projects can range from grassroots sustainability campaigns and educational outreach to large-scale advocacy initiatives. Through these collaborations, Fellows are encouraged to think boldly and creatively about real-world solutions.

Celebrate:
Upon successfully meeting the goals set by the cohort and completing the Fellowship’s graduation requirements, participants receive a Certificate of Recognition jointly issued by the United Nations Academic Impact and the Millennium Campus Network, honoring their achievements and contribution to global progress.

How the Fellowship Works

1. Apply Early: Submit your application to become a Millennium Fellow before the priority deadline.
2. Participate Fully: Engage in the “Convene, Challenge, and Celebrate” process throughout the semester.
3. Join the Alumni Network: After graduation, Fellows become part of a growing community of Millennium Fellowship alumni—young leaders driving social change worldwide.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following conditions:

• Be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
• Be a currently enrolled undergraduate student in good academic standing at a recognised college or university.
• Commit to participating in at least eight in-person meetings on campus between August and December 2026.
• Be available to work collaboratively with Campus Directors and other Fellows to share best practices and execute collective projects.
• Maintain active participation—missing sessions can result in expulsion and loss of the Millennium Fellow designation.
• The program is exclusively for undergraduate students. Graduate students (pursuing Master’s or PhD degrees) are not eligible.

Application and Selection Timeline

• October 2025: Round 1 of the Millennium Fellowship applications opens.
• November 2025: Round 2 applications begin.
• October 31, 2025: Priority Application Deadline.
• August 2026: Selected Millennium Fellows and Campus Directors for the Class of 2026 will be notified.

Program Timeline

• Fellowship Launch: August 2026.
• Fellowship Confirmation and Entrance Survey: To be completed before August 30 or before the first cohort meeting.
• Global Town Hall: August 2026 — an interactive event connecting Fellows from across the world.
• Bi-Weekly Campus Meetings: Each campus cohort will hold 2-hour sessions every other week, totaling at least six sessions between August and December.
• Graduation Ceremony: November 2026.
• End of Program Evaluation: Fellows must submit their final materials by November 30, 2026.
