The ECOWAS Commission, acting as the Secretariat for the West Africa Internet Governance Forum (WAIGF), in partnership with the Government of Senegal, is making arrangements to host the 16th edition of the WAIGF from July 11 to 12, 2024. Preceding the WAIGF, the 7th West African School on Internet Governance (WASIG) will be held online from May 20 to June 20, 2024, followed by an in-person session in Dakar, Senegal from July 7 to 10, 2024.

Program: ECOWAS-WAIGF West African School on Internet Governance Fellowship

The ECOWAS-WAIGF West African School on School Internet Governance Fellowship curriculum consists of a one-month certified online course followed by a three-day intensive learning session in Dakar, Senegal. Its objective is to provide participants with an understanding of Internet governance from both a global and West African perspective. The program includes discussions with experts in the field and opportunities to engage in the West Africa Youth IGF and WAIGF in Senegal. Upon successful completion, participants will receive certificates. The main topics covered in the program are:

1. Evolution of the Internet and history of Internet Governance
2. Mapping of Internet Governance processes and stakeholders
3. Categorization of Internet Governance issues (infrastructure, legal, economic, and development) within African contexts
4. Detailed examination of opportunities and challenges related to emerging issues (Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, Digital economy, Human rights)
5. A practical exercise in digital policy

Applications are open to stakeholders from West Africa. Ideal candidates should be actively involved as key players or decision-makers in Internet governance or ICT policy processes. They should also be capable of contributing to Internet governance activities or processes within their institutions, countries, continent, and globally.
