Apply for the YALI RLCs/ POWER AFRICA Design Challenge 2024 for young Africans.

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Regional Leadership Centres (RLCs) are actively promoting the use of environmentally friendly technologies to address the energy crisis in Africa. In collaboration with Power Africa, the RLCs are launching a design challenge specifically for women alumni who are working in the energy sector.

If you’re interested, we encourage you to apply for the 12-week program, which will be conducted online starting in the first quarter of 2024. The program will provide a practical online curriculum focused on green energy, sustainability, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through this curriculum, participants will learn how to develop innovative solutions for the design challenge using the Empathise, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test approach.

During the program, alumni will have the opportunity to share their experiences and deepen their knowledge in areas where sustainability practices and development are crucial. At the end of the learning period, participants will present their ideas to a panel of judges, who will evaluate and select the top three winners.

The main objective of this challenge is to promote smart and sustainable green energy solutions in Africa. Female alumni from the four YALI RLCs who are actively involved in the energy sector are invited to apply. Based on the submitted ideas, 24 exceptional individuals will be chosen to participate in the design challenge.

Benefits

As for the benefits, the winners will receive funding for their project ideas and six months of coaching to help them develop prototypes.

Application Procedure

If you’re interested in applying, please note that applications will open on November 27, 2023, and will run for three weeks until December 15, 2023. The selected participants will be announced on January 22, 2023.

Please keep in mind that your submissions will be the basis for your participation in this program. Once selected, you will work on your individual project ideas throughout the challenge, but you will also be grouped into different teams for interactive activities.
