The Youth Local Government Accountability Fellowship for for Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe States is an extension of the Civic Engagement Academy (YCEA), which serves as a flagship initiative of the Spotlight for Transparency and Accountability Initiative aimed at enhancing youth civic engagement and participation in Nigeria. This program will convene young men, women, and individuals with disabilities who are civic actors, activists, and members of civil society in Yobe State for a two-day boot camp, a three-month leadership development program, three months of mentorship, and the execution of civic actions within their communities. Participants will be equipped with essential skills in civic engagement, advocacy, resource mobilization, and community organizing, all of which are crucial for bolstering civic participation and engagement in their respective communities.
The curriculum of the Academy will encompass specialized subjects such as social accountability and transparency, local government administration, gender mainstreaming, community organizing for action, effective communication and storytelling, policy advocacy, the establishment and maintenance of networks and coalitions, resource development, and online organizing.
The Academy receives support from the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund (NYFF). This initiative is part of a broader effort to empower and enable young individuals in Nigeria to take on leadership roles, engage in activism, and drive social change through outcome-oriented policy engagements and inclusive resource allocation that will assist youth in influencing and contributing to medium- and long-term national development.
Eligibility – The Youth Local Government Accountability Fellowship
- Must be resident of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba or Yobe State.
- Must be between Age of 18—29 years.
- Interest in fostering social accountability.
- Have an essential insight into a civic engagement and local government.
- Willing to commit 9 months intensive multidimensional activities.
