The Opportunity offered by the GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition

  • Two winners will receive a total of 100,000 US Dollars in prizes!
  • Two grand prizes of 50,000 US Dollars each
  • Recognition Awards – This year’s judges will be seeking to reward ventures that have a significant impact in areas such as improving rural livelihoods, nutrition, climate solutions, technology, gender equality, natural resources conservation, and job creation

  • Invitation to the 2025 GoGettaz Africa Leadership Program for top finalists
  • A female and a male entrepreneur will each be awarded 50,000 US Dollars for their
    most innovative and scalable business ventures.

The top GoGettaz agripreneurs will receive an all-expenses paid trip to present their businesses at the GoGettaz Finals during the Africa Food Systems Forum Summit. The 2024 AFSF Summit is scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, in September.

During the summit, the AFSF Agribusiness Dealroom, Africa’s largest networking platform, will provide GoGettaz Finalists with the opportunity to connect with potential investors, partners, and collaborators.

Top participants will also be able to apply for the exclusive 6-month GoGettaz Africa Leadership Program, aimed at empowering emerging leaders with the necessary skills and connections to enhance both themselves and their businesses.

Selected entrepreneurs will receive personalized assistance, engaging in one-on-one coaching, peer-to-peer sessions, and workshops led by industry experts, promoting continuous growth and development even after the competition ends.

The GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize is a great opportunity for young African agripreneurs to ignite their agribusiness potential.

Eligibility for the GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition

The Entrepreneur

  • The businessperson must be 35 years old or younger at the time of entering the competition, and must be considered an adult in their country of citizenship.
  • The businessperson must hold citizenship (with an official identification) from a country that is a part of the African Union.
  • The businessperson must be the creator or co-creator of the business they are representing in the competition, and must actively participate in its management and leadership.
  • The businessperson must not have any criminal history related to corruption, tax evasion, financial misconduct, serious crimes, or any other illegal activities, and must be willing to provide a signed statement confirming this, if requested.

The Venture

  • The business must already be legally registered in a country that is a member of the African Union or must have started the registration process for such a legal entity before July 1, 2024.
  • The business must be headquartered in a country that is a member of the African Union.
  • The business must be financially sustainable, whether it operates as a for-profit enterprise or a non-profit organization that generates some income and aims to be self-sufficient without relying on donor funding.
  • The business must be involved in the agrifood sector and/or must contribute to the advancement of the agrifood sector through innovation or process enhancement.
  • The agrifood sector may be defined as businesses engaged in:
    • Agrifood research & development
    • Primary food production (farming)
    • Crop nutrition
    • Irrigation
    • Mechanisation, automation or robotics, including drones
    • Crop protection
    • Hydroponics or urban farming
    • Transport, distribution, storage or logistics
    • Food processing
    • Packaging or marketing
    • Food retail or service
    • Waste management or recycling
    • Digital or technology solutions/services to the agrifood sector
    • Innovative finance solutions/services to the agrifood sector
    • Renewable energy or environmental solutions/services to the agrifood
      sector

Timeline for the GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition

  • The jury will review all applications  submitted from 8 April to 10 June 2024.
  • Evaluations considering the following criteria:
    • Innovation
    • Market potential and traction
    • Inspiring and Investible Team
    • Business model
    • Impact
  • Top 24 semi-finalists will be notified in mid-July.
  • Semi-finalists will interviewed
  • 12 finalists will be selected at the end of July 2024.
  • Six male and six female finalists will be notified via WhatsApp and email.
  • Finalists will be invited to compete on stage at the AFSF Summit in the first week of September 2024.
  • All 12 finalists will be awarded mentorship, programming linkages and other guidance to continue their entrepreneurial journey.

The application for the GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition comprises of inquiries such as:

– “Provide an instance of your entrepreneurial mindset.”
– “How does your business generate revenue?”
– “What is your strategy for scaling up your business?”
– “Who are your primary competitors?”
– “What are the major challenges you have faced in your business so far and how have you overcome them?”

  • Applicants are required to complete each section of the application in order to be considered. It is important to allocate sufficient time to complete all sections.
  • Remember that you have the option to save your progress. You can complete your application in multiple sessions.
  • Applicants who successfully pass the initial round will be requested to submit a two-minute pitch video. This video will provide an opportunity for you to impress the judges and demonstrate why you deserve to advance to the finals of the 2024 GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition. Your video pitch will also be utilized to promote your company to the GoGettaz audience.
