The Alliance for Human-Animal Coexistence AHAC Small Grants Program, which is designed to empower African organizations to spearhead innovative and culturally relevant projects that foster ethical and sustainable relationships among people, animals, and the environment. With grants available from $1,000 to $10,000, this initiative aims to support transformative efforts that align with AHAC’s mission of unifying well-being across human, animal, and environmental systems.
The program invites applicants to propose community-led initiatives that enhance local organizations and their endeavors in promoting humane treatment of animals while maintaining environmental balance. Projects that integrate Indigenous knowledge systems with contemporary scientific methods are particularly encouraged, as AHAC seeks to promote a comprehensive and evidence-based advancement of coexistence practices.
The primary goals of the AHAC Small Grants include raising awareness about the human-animal interface, promoting ethical interactions, supporting income-generating activities related to coexistence, and facilitating knowledge exchange that can impact policy and capacity building. These grants are also aimed at fostering local solutions that have the potential for sustainable impact and community ownership.
To be eligible, applicants must be registered as non-profit organizations, community-based groups, academic institutions, or social enterprises.
They are required to either showcase a robust history of success or propose a compelling and actionable innovation in the fields of animal welfare, environmental conservation, or human-animal coexistence.
Furthermore, transparency in financial management and a significant local presence are critical criteria.
Eligible projects should be driven by the community, aligned with AHAC’s objectives, and crafted to yield measurable enhancements for animals, communities, and ecosystems.
Proposals that replicate existing initiatives will not be accepted, and preference will be given to those that incorporate Indigenous knowledge alongside scientific insights.
All projects that receive funding must be completed within a 12-month timeframe.
Applicants are anticipated to provide a comprehensive plan detailing goals, activities, budgets, and expected outcomes, as well as demonstrate their preparedness to implement and participate in learning opportunities provided by AHAC.
