Apply for the Africa Climate Fellowship to make a difference in climate change. This initiative unites entrepreneurs from Sub-Saharan Africa, equipping them to tackle climate issues through Renewable Energy, Green Building, Climate Data, Agriculture, WaterTech, and Blue Economy solutions. Benefit from specialized training, essential resources to boost your business, a week-long in-person residency in Washington, DC, and another week-long in-person residency in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Africa Climate Fellowship is made possible with the backing of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the Office of Global Partnerships at the U.S. State Department.

Africa Climate Fellowship PROGRAM STRUCTURE
- Cohort of up to 10 ventures founded by entrepreneurs from across Sub-Saharan Africa, working in the climate space. Ventures receive training in Halcyon’s methodology on product-market fit, investment readiness, and leadership.
- Program is delivered through:
- One virtual kickoff meeting
- A one week residency in DC
- Monthly virtual meetings
- A one week residency in Nairobi
Africa Climate Fellowship Benefits
- Each program offers unique advantages to participants. Those selected for this program will be entitled to the following benefits:
- – An equity-free stipend of $5,000 USD per venture for travel expenses to attend the residencies
- – A one-week residency at Halcyon’s facilities in Georgetown, Washington, DC
- – A one-week residency in Nairobi, including a culminating event with pitches from each venture and networking opportunities with investors, advisors, and media
- – Tailored training on:
- – Product-market fit
- – Investment readiness
- – Leadership
- – Skills development and mentorship
- – Enhancing storytelling and pitching abilities
- – Access to relevant impact investors
- – $10,000 USD in Amazon Cloud credits
- – Membership in a global community of more than 450 impact-driven entrepreneurs.
Africa Climate Fellowship CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPATION
We are seeking startups that are focused on creating scalable solutions to address issues related to Climate change and are operating as for-profit entities.
- Location: Your startup must be either based in Sub-Saharan Africa or serving the region.
- Stage: It is required to have a Minimum Viable Product with the potential for growth.
- Team:
– You can apply with one co-founder.
– The applicant must be the CEO or have primary decision-making authority.
– Proficiency in English is a must.
– The applicant must be at least 21 years old at the beginning of the program. - Program Engagement: Full participation in all activities and programming sessions is mandatory.
- Impact: Your product and venture should align with at least one of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
- Apart from meeting the eligibility criteria, Halcyon evaluates each application based on four key factors: Impact, Scalability, Innovation, and Talent.
Africa Climate Fellowship Selection Criteria
- IMPACT – To what extent will the solution, if scaled, have a meaningful impact on society and/or the environment?
- SCALABILITY – Could this venture scale to reach hundreds of thousands or millions of users in a 5-10 year time horizon?
- INNOVATION – Is the solution a novel approach to tackling the issue in their context?
- TALENT – Is the team uniquely qualified to tackle the challenges they’ve identified?

- March 22, 2024: Application closes
- May/June 2024: Finalists invited to Virtual Pitch with Selection Committee
- June 2024: Selected fellows will be notified
- July 18, 2024: Virtual Kickoff Meeting
- July 29 – August 2, 2024: In-person residency in Washington, D.C.
- August 15, September 19, October 10, 2024: Monthly Virtual Meetings
- November 11 – 15, 2024: In-person residency in Nairobi
