Applications open for the National Health Fellows Programme
Applications are now open for the 2025 National Health Fellows Programme, a flagship initiative of the Government of Nigeria, implemented through the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (SWAp Coordination Office) under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
The programme seeks to identify, train, and empower a new generation of visionary health professionals capable of transforming Nigeria’s healthcare landscape. It brings together exceptional young talents from diverse fields such as public health, medicine, information technology, and the social sciences, fostering collaboration and innovation across disciplines.
Through intensive training, mentorship, leadership development, and exposure to best practices, the fellowship aims to build a network of skilled health leaders committed to advancing sustainable health solutions in their communities and across the nation.
Programme Objectives
- Strengthen the capacity of emerging professionals to design and implement impactful health interventions.
- Promote leadership, innovation, and accountability within the health ecosystem.
- Encourage collaboration among health, technology, and social sectors to improve service delivery.
- Foster a culture of community-driven healthcare solutions and data-informed decision-making.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must be between 25 and 35 years old.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field, information technology, or the social sciences.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in public health, NGOs, community projects, or initiatives that highlight leadership and problem-solving.
- Must be available full-time for the duration of the fellowship.
- Must be an indigene of the state being applied for.
- Possession of a smartphone with data access (WhatsApp, Zoom, etc.) is required.
- A recommendation letter from a University Dean, NYSC supervisor, or a respected organization attesting to the candidate’s character and leadership potential.
- Strong analytical, entrepreneurial, and communication skills, with a passion for primary healthcare and social innovation.
Stipend
Fellows will receive a monthly stipend to support living and participation costs throughout the programme.
Programme Structure
The fellowship blends in-person and virtual learning formats, designed to build both technical and leadership competencies.
- In-Person Workshops: Engaging sessions with experts on strategy, governance, and innovation in healthcare.
- Asynchronous Learning: Flexible virtual courses accessible at any time.
- Mentorship: One-on-one coaching with experienced professionals for personal and career guidance.
- Capstone Projects: Practical projects where fellows apply their learning to solve real health challenges in their states or communities.
- Collaboration: Opportunities to connect with peers, policymakers, and industry leaders driving transformation across the Nigerian health sector.
Selection Process
The National Health Fellows Programme follows a transparent and merit-based process to identify the most dedicated and qualified candidates.

- Interview and Screening: Shortlisted candidates will participate in both virtual and physical interviews.
- Final Selection: Successful applicants will receive an official offer letter and onboarding details.
