Applications open for ITU Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme 2024.

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 ITU Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme. This program, in collaboration with Huawei, aims to engage, empower, and inspire young digital leaders and changemakers. Each year, 30 young fellows will have the opportunity to receive guidance, training, and financial support to implement their own digital development projects in diverse communities worldwide.

ITU, in partnership with Huawei, is offering guidance, training, and financial support to 30 young fellows annually, enabling them to practically implement digital development projects in their diverse communities across the globe. This program provides young leaders with a unique chance to turn their digital development ideas into reality or expand the impact of their existing projects.

Eligibility Requirements – ITU Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme

1. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 28 by the application deadline of Saturday, March 23, 2024.
2. Applicants should have an interest in leading and implementing a digital development project.
3. Applicants must be currently enrolled or recently graduated from a tertiary education institution with a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) or a demonstrably STEM-related academic program.
4. Applicants must be able to communicate effectively in English, as it is the main language of the program. This language requirement ensures that all fellows can fully benefit from the planned trainings, networking opportunities, and events.

Benefits – ITU Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme

1. Curated programming: Participants will engage in year-long virtual leadership training activities conducted by ITU and Huawei. They will also have the opportunity to participate in an in-person global training week (location to be confirmed), which will further enhance their capacity as digital changemakers.
2. Funding: Each selected fellow will receive up to USD 10,000 in grant funding for their youth-led project. This includes an initial USD 5,000 grant to support the implementation of their proposed digital development projects. At the end of the year, the most impactful projects will receive an additional USD 5,000 grant to scale up their initiatives.

Selection Process: ITU Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme

Initial Screening: The initial screening of applications will be conducted by ITU and Huawei personnel. By mid-April 2024, selected candidates will receive an invitation to promptly submit ID documents, a video, and two distinct references for the final selection phase.
Final Selection: The GCYLP Jury will convene for a final selection meeting to identify the 30 fellows for the program. The announcement of the selected fellows is targeted for early May 2024.
