Applications open for Goethe Institut Dreaming New Worlds Program (up to N2.5 Million)
For the Goethe Institut Dreaming New Worlds Program second edition, we extend an invitation to artists to delve into the concept of Collective Illusions. African culture is a rich tradition that is deeply ingrained and passed down through generations via various mediums such as stories, music, and proverbs. These mediums encapsulate the collective wisdom, values, and experiences of the community.
As the world progresses, new opportunities arise to explore and question culture and social agreements.
We welcome multidisciplinary artists, curators, and historians from diverse fields including visual art, film, writing, performance, and architecture to explore the process of contextualization and propose works that contribute to the creation of new contexts for our country.
We are particularly interested in individuals who integrate art, technology, and the sciences into their creative practices. Our aim is to examine how the ideas and philosophies we uphold as truths in society differ from the reality of the Nigerian experience.
Fifteen artists and scientists will have the opportunity to participate in a one-week Ideathon, where they will form collectives and collaborate to align their practices and ideas with the curatorial vision. Three collectives will be selected to receive a production grant of NGN 2,500,000 each and will be part of a group exhibition in November 2024, as part of the Dreaming New Worlds program.

The program offers production and exhibition grants of up to NGN 2,500,000 to three collectives formed during a two-week Ideathon. The program encompasses various domains including African Heritage, Ecologies, Social Equity, Mediums & Practices, Narratives, Climate & Urban development.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Enhancing Capacity: The program aims to enhance participants’ capacity through a variety of activities such as workshops, talks, lectures, and screenings. These activities are open to both participants and the public, encouraging a multi-disciplinary approach to research, critical thinking, and artistic outcomes. The ultimate goal is to inspire positive action and envision new futures for the country.
Promoting Innovation: By providing a supportive exhibition platform, the program seeks to showcase ideas and works that are not typically seen in mainstream settings. This allows for healthy criticism and engagement with unconventional creatives. Additionally, the program serves as a gateway to relevant platforms where these artists can further develop and refine their skills.
Engaging the Community: The program strives to bring technological innovation closer to young people by organizing screenings, workshops, talks, lectures, and exhibitions. Through these activities, participants are encouraged to create works that respond to societal needs and contribute to the betterment of our community. The public is also invited to provide feedback on the artwork and its objectives.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Residency: Creative technologists applying to the program must be residents of Nigeria. They should also be able to travel to Lagos, where the program will take place.
Experience: Applicants must demonstrate adequate proof of consistent practice in their field for a period of 3-5 years, or an equivalent level of experience.
Commitment: Successful applicants must be available and committed to creating work with their collective from July to November 2024.
