Applications now open for the Science Without Borders Challenge

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2025 Science without Borders® Challenge, organized by the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation. The Science Without Borders® Challenge is a global competition designed to engage both students and educators in the realm of ocean conservation through artistic expression. This annual event encourages students to harness their creativity while raising public awareness about the importance of preserving, protecting, and restoring the world’s oceans and aquatic ecosystems, aligning with the broader objectives of the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation. The Challenge is available to both primary and secondary school participants.

Eligibility – Science without Borders Challenge

This international art competition welcomes all students aged 11 to 19 years. Participants must be enrolled in primary or secondary education, or an equivalent home schooling program. College and university students are not eligible to participate in this contest.

Entries will be evaluated in two distinct age categories, with awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category:

Students aged 11-14 years
Students aged 15-19 years
Prizes
The winners of the Science Without Borders® Challenge will receive the following scholarships:

1st Place: $500
2nd Place: $350
3rd Place: $200

How to Apply

To apply to the 2025 Science Without Borders Challenge, fill out the online entry form, upload a picture of your artwork, and make sure everything is submitted before the deadline! If you are under the age of 13, your parents will be asked to provide consent, so make sure not to wait until the last minute. Before applying, check out our Tips for Success for suggestions on how to make the most of your application, such as how to write a compelling artist’s statement that describes how your artwork relates to this year’s theme.
