Applications now open for the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation
The Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation, established by the Royal Academy of Engineering, stands as the largest award in Africa dedicated to engineering innovation. Launched in March 2014, the prize aims to inspire, acknowledge, and incentivize innovation and entrepreneurship throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
Since its inception, the Africa Prize has delivered invaluable training, mentorship, and communication support to 149 businesses spanning 23 countries. Additionally, it boasts an alumni program with 71% of past winners currently generating revenue. Collectively, our alumni have secured $39 million in grants and equity.

HOW TO APPLY for the Applications now open for the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation
- Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation. All interested parties must submit their applications through the online grants system. Prior to submission, applicants are advised to thoroughly review the guidance notes, FAQ, and eligibility criteria.
- To apply for the Africa Prize, applicants must first create an account on our Grant Management System (GMS) as instructed. Once logged in, please select ‘Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation 2024/2025’ to initiate your application.
- The Africa Prize seeks out engineers and entrepreneurs who have either developed or are in the process of developing a new technological innovation.
- Applicants should possess the drive to play a pivotal role in establishing a new business to bring this innovation to market. Innovations should aim to enhance the welfare and economic progress of a country or countries in sub-Saharan Africa, addressing a specific development need or challenge within that region.
