Application open for the Union for International Cancer Control Fellowships
Application are open for the Union for 2026 International Cancer Control Fellowships. UICC’s Technical Fellowships offer cancer professionals the opportunity to acquire new knowledge, skills, and techniques in cancer control through short learning visits lasting from two weeks to two months. This particular fellowship was first introduced in 1976 under the name International Cancer Research Technology Transfer awards (ICRETT), and it has enabled knowledge exchange for the past four decades.
Objectives – Union for International Cancer Control Fellowships
- Facilitate the global exchange and enhancement of technical knowledge and skills in cancer control.
- Enhance the capacity of both the individual and their home organization by effectively applying and disseminating the newly acquired skills upon their return.
- Encourage the formation of networks among cancer control professionals to promote the ongoing sharing of best practices and knowledge, as well as to provide informal support, guidance, or training.
Eligible candidates – Union for International Cancer Control Fellowships
- Public health professionals, including epidemiologists,
- health educators, social workers,
- nutritionists, administrators, and other specialized professionals engaged in cancer control;
- cancer researchers involved in translational, clinical, and/or implementation research; clinicians, nurses, and pathologists.
- Applicants must possess at least a Master’s degree, although qualified medical doctors may be considered without a higher degree (i.e., an MD) if they have or are within a year of obtaining board certification (or equivalent) in a cancer-related specialty. Registered nurses with an RN qualification are also eligible to apply.
- A one-year training qualification in a cancer-related specialty post-university degree may be accepted as equivalent to a Master’s degree, such as training as a cancer registrar.
- All candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in the field of cancer prior to applying.
- Medical and PhD students are not eligible to apply.

Award amounts – Union for International Cancer Control Fellowships
Fellowship award amounts are determined by UICC, taking into account the duration of the fellowship and established scales for living expenses and estimated economy flight costs from the home country to the host country. For additional information, please consult the application guidelines.
Scope of the call – Union for International Cancer Control Fellowships
- This call places significant importance on public health and the education of health professionals regarding cost-effective and evidence-based strategies and interventions for cancer control that are relevant and suitable for the applicant’s context, as well as the broader health system.
- Fellowships focusing on cancer prevention or early detection, along with projects that promote equitable access to affordable and effective treatment, as well as supportive and palliative care for cancer survivors, are given priority.
- Fellowship topics will encompass cancer research, whether it is implementation, translational, or clinical research that directly contributes to the enhancement of health and well-being for cancer patients. Applications centered solely on basic research are discouraged, and applicants engaged in these areas are advised to seek a YY Study Grant.
