World Federation of Neurology Visiting Fellow Program (Funded) now open

The World Federation of Neurology (WFN), in collaboration with the Association of British Neurologists (ABN), is pleased to announce a partnership with the Department of Neurology at Cairo University. Together, they are offering a one-year visiting fellowship position for a newly trained African Neurologist.

The WFN, which consists of 124 member societies and six regional organizations, is dedicated to promoting brain health worldwide. They work closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners to achieve this goal. The ABN, as a member society of the WFN, is excited to support this fellowship opportunity. Dr. Richard Davenport, the President of ABN, expressed his delight in partnering with the WFN once again and emphasized the importance of this fellowship in furthering the training and professional relationships of African neurologists.

The fellowship will take place at Cairo University in Cairo, Egypt, and will focus on General Neurology. Its purpose is to enhance neurological training within Africa, facilitate networking with colleagues, and foster future collaborations. The training will be conducted in English, ensuring effective communication and knowledge exchange.

The fellowship will span one academic year, starting from September 2024 and ending in August 2025. During this period, the visiting fellow will receive various forms of support. This includes reimbursement for one economy flight from their country of residence to Cairo and back, accommodation for the academic year, a monthly allowance for living expenses (food and beverage), and health insurance and medical practice insurance arranged by the hosts. The scholarship amount will be paid directly to Cairo University, which will then reimburse the fellow’s expenses.

It is important to note that the support provided is solely for the visiting fellow and does not cover any family members or dependents. Additionally, any financial matters unrelated to the fellowship project are not the responsibility of the WFN.

This fellowship opportunity presents a unique chance for a newly trained African Neurologist to further their professional development, expand their network, and contribute to the field of neurology. Criteria for applications:

• The applicant must be a resident of a low or lower-middle income country from the Sub-Saharan African continent
• The applicant must be born after 31.12.1981
• The applicant must have recently completed his/ her neurology training
• The applicant must be fluent in English
