This prestigious programme is highly regarded globally and provides experienced journalists with the chance to take a break from their usual work and explore the world of journalism in greater depth.

Many of our esteemed Journalist Fellows receive full funding for their participation in the programme, as well as a stipend to support their living expenses and travel costs. We strongly encourage all eligible journalists to apply for this outstanding opportunity to enhance their professional growth and make a valuable contribution to the field of journalism.

Eligibility

The University of Oxford’s Reuters Institute is excited to welcome around 30 Journalist Fellows every year. These fellows come from diverse backgrounds and bring valuable perspectives and extensive expertise to the institute.

To be considered for a journalist fellowship, applicants must have at least five years of experience in journalism. In some exceptional cases, individuals with an equivalent level of expertise may also be considered. Freelancers are eligible to apply, but those working in public affairs, public relations, or corporate communications are not eligible.

The Journalist Fellowships are open to journalists from all over the world, including Europe, Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, North America, and Latin America.

While English language proficiency is not formally assessed, applicants should be able to understand and actively participate in English discussions.

Benefits

Benefits of the programme include full fee coverage, a monthly stipend of £2,000, travel expenses, and visa costs.

Details

Fellows are expected to focus solely on the program and can potentially receive funding from sponsoring organizations.

Fellowships can last three or six months, with start dates in October, January, or April.

Fellows must be present in Oxford for the entire term but can travel for short periods as long as they don’t miss any important activities.
