UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize ($25,000 prize) is inviting Applications
Established in 1997, the annual UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize recognizes individuals, organizations, or institutions that have made remarkable contributions to the defense and promotion of press freedom worldwide, even in the face of danger.
This prestigious prize was initiated by UNESCO’s Executive Board and is officially awarded by UNESCO on World Press Freedom Day, which falls on May 3rd.
The prize is named in honor of Guillermo Cano Isaza, a Colombian journalist who was tragically assassinated in front of the offices of his newspaper, El Espectador, in Bogotá, Colombia on December 17, 1986.
Nomination
- To nominate candidates for the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize 2024, UNESCO invites Member States to consult with their National Commissions, as well as international and regional professional non-governmental organizations in the field of journalism and press freedom.
