Africa Matters Initiative (AMI) Her Environment, Her Future Program for Young Women in Africa is a youth-led organization dedicated to empowering and enhancing the skills of young Africans to bring about positive change in their communities and reshape the African narrative through leadership, social entrepreneurship, and advocacy.
Her Environment, Her Future is a comprehensive four-month youth leadership and virtual advocacy program designed for young women in Africa who are actively engaged in the fight against climate change. The program focuses on various aspects including leadership development, personal growth, climate education, policy engagement, advocacy, green and social entrepreneurship, as well as effective communication.
Main Themes – Her Environment, Her Future Program for Young Women in Africa
By the end of the program, participants will have gained the necessary tools, knowledge, and insights to make tangible changes in their communities, countries, and regions across three main themes:
1. Personal Development
2. Advocacy and Leadership in the Climate Change Sector
3. Networking and Collaboration for Impact
Upon completion of the program, participants will have established a strong network of young female leaders and will receive certificates of participation. They will also have acquired a deeper understanding of how to promote climate-focused justice and advocacy within their communities, enabling them to transfer these skills to other community members.
For the 2024 cohort, we are seeking 20 young women and girls aged 16-29 from specific countries including Malawi, Ghana, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Tunisia, and Sierra Leone.
In Section E, you are required to create a brief 3-minute video introducing yourself and explaining how you expect to benefit from this program in terms of personal and professional growth. Kindly adhere to the upload guidelines provided. Videos longer than 3 minutes will result in a penalty.

Key Dates: Her Environment, Her Future Program for Young Women in Africa
– Applications open on Wednesday, 19 June 2024 at 12:00pm CAT and close on Sunday 14 July 2024 at 11:59 pm CAT. The application process should take approximately 45 minutes to an hour.
– The announcement and selection of the 20 HEHF Leaders are tentatively scheduled for the week of 29 July 2024.
– The non-residential youth leadership and virtual advocacy program is set to commence the week of 12 August 2024 and conclude the week of 9 December 2024.
