The Savant Build Programme is actively seeking early-stage startups that are addressing complex challenges in the green economy using science and engineering-based technology. By joining our Build Programme 2024, these startups will receive support, credibility, and backing from Savant and USAID Mobilizing Investment.
The Build Programme is a rigorous six-month initiative that provides startups with guidance in developing a compelling business case for investors. It covers 12 critical themes and offers a comprehensive range of online learning materials, practical assignments, and interactive webinars. In addition to these resources, participants will have the opportunity to engage with the vibrant Savant community and gain valuable insights from expert mentors. This holistic approach ensures that each venture is well-prepared and ready to attract investors by the end of the programme.
Accepted companies will have access to resources worth over R350,000, including masterclasses led by industry experts, tailored business development services, our robust learning management system, and entry into our mentoring and consulting network, among other valuable assets.

Who we are seeking
To be eligible for the 2024 Build Programme, we are looking for individuals and teams who meet the following criteria:
General Eligibility:
- Cutting-edge hardware solutions based on advanced technology
- Entrepreneurs actively seeking funding, whether in the early stages or seed stage
- Dedication to addressing challenges related to decarbonization, resource efficiency, and conservation management
Stage-Specific Requirements:
- Proven success in the market with a compelling proof of concept (partial prototype)
- Demonstrated product-market fit or validation from the market
- A dynamic and adaptable team eager to learn and open to mentorship
- Ambitious local hardware applications with the potential for global impact
- In-house technical co-founder
- Strong foundation of intellectual property
Preferred Sectors:
- Clean energy and improving energy efficiency
- Conservation and management of resources
- Practices for sustainable waste management
- Sustainable agriculture
- Effective water management.
Benefits
- Accepted companies will have the opportunity to access resources valued at over R350,000. These resources include masterclasses conducted by industry experts, tailored business development services, our comprehensive learning management system, and membership in our mentoring and consulting network, among other valuable assets.
- The Build Programme offers a fully immersive experience that spans six months. Throughout this period, participants will have the privilege of attending our meticulously curated masterclasses, which cover a wide range of topics and are led by experts in their respective fields.
- Outstanding companies will also have the chance to secure an equity investment ranging from R100,000 to R200,000. Additionally, they will receive supplementary services such as hardware development consulting, access to skilled software developers, personalized sales mentorship, and ongoing support from the Savant team.
- The support provided by Build does not cease after the initial six months. We are committed to assisting founders throughout the lifespan of their companies. Founders will have continued access to the Savant Venture Fund and other network funds, enabling them to secure follow-on funding and successfully scale their businesses.
