RSTMH Early Career Grants Programme 2024 now accepting entries
The RSTMH Early Career Grants Programme offers annual grants to individuals in the early stages of their career, regardless of their location, to conduct their initial research in the field of tropical medicine or global health.
Our grants programme has been in operation for over 40 years and has experienced significant growth. Since 2017, we have awarded over 800 grants across 66 countries.
The 2024 RSTMH Early Career Grants Programme:
– Applications open on 22 January 2024 at 5pm (GMT)
– Applications close on 22 April 2024 at 12pm (BST)
Who is eligible for the grants: The RSTMH Early Career Grants are intended for individuals who have not previously received a research grant of £5,000 or more in their own name. Applicants should be capable of developing and executing their first research project.
Geographical eligibility: Researchers from any part of the world are encouraged to apply.
Grant amount: The maximum amount awarded for the RSTMH Early Career Grant is £5,000, which includes any applicable taxes on relevant purchases.
Duration of the grant project: The project should be completed within one year and must commence within three months of receiving the funding.
Topic and scope: The projects can cover any subject related to tropical medicine and global health, encompassing various areas of research such as laboratory work, translation, implementation, and policy.
Number of grants available: This year, we have a minimum of 230 grants available.
Funding exclusively for RSTMH members

Partnerships
This year, we have secured funding for the programme from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), The International Alliance for the Control of Scabies (IACS), and The Journal of Comparative Pathology Educational Trust (JCPET). This allows us to fund a minimum of 230 awards, with 4 of those awards exclusively reserved for RSTMH members.
NIHR will be funding at least 225 awardees who are based in and conducting projects in LMICs, and whose projects do not involve laboratory-based work.
IACS will be funding 2 awards for projects focused on scabies, regardless of the project’s location.
JCPET will be funding 1 award for a project focused on One Health, regardless of the project’s location.
