Resilient Agriculture Innovations for Nature (RAIN) challenge is now open
GRP has joined forces with the Shockwave Foundation and the Munich Re Foundation to launch the Resilient Agriculture Innovations for Nature (RAIN) challenge. Apply before January 30, 2024.
The agricultural sector holds immense potential for innovation and transformation, despite being increasingly affected by the adverse effects of climate change. It is crucial to revamp agricultural systems, particularly for communities heavily reliant on agriculture for their livelihoods. Supporting resilient solutions from agricultural entrepreneurs and organizations is vital in adapting to climate change, developing resilient food systems, and preserving biodiversity.
To address this, the Global Resilience Partnership (GRP) has partnered with the Shockwave Foundation and the Munich Re Foundation for the Resilient Agriculture Innovations for Nature (RAIN) challenge.
RAIN aims to take innovative agricultural ideas at the seed level that address resilience needs in East Africa and scale them into sustainable business ideas that attract private investors and funders. The goal is to identify new and innovative agricultural initiatives and provide tailored support to maximize their potential impact. The challenge will connect potential funders with these initiatives and draw attention to the urgent need for transforming agricultural systems.
We are seeking nature-positive solutions that are innovative, scalable, and drive investment in ecosystems while enhancing resilience. These solutions should create a conducive environment for nature-positive agriculture to thrive. They must also prioritize building resilience for those most vulnerable to shocks and stresses, with a focus on gender equality, equity, human rights, and biodiversity conservation. We will consider specific awards for initiatives that benefit women and young people, with a preference for women-led and youth-led initiatives.
Who is eligible to apply?
RAIN accepts applications from a wide range of organizations, including not-for-profit organizations in the public, local civil society, international NGOs, and academia. Additionally, for-profit organizations, farmers, and entrepreneurs in East Africa (Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda) are also encouraged to apply. We particularly encourage and welcome proposals from youth-led and women-led organizations.
What do the winners receive?
The winners will have the opportunity to connect with potential funders, donors, and investors. They will also receive a personalized mentoring program and communications support. Additionally, the winners will be invited to participate in an investor forum and pitching session, either in-person or virtually. Subject matter experts will facilitate a leadership academy for the shortlisted entrants. After the initial mentoring period and the leadership academy, the winners will also receive a cash prize.
