IICJ Judicial Fellowship Programme for recent Law Graduates now accepting entries

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is calling out to all universities worldwide for the 2024-2025 Judicial Fellowship Programme! This amazing opportunity was established back in 1999 to give law graduates a chance to gain professional experience at the ICJ.

The main goal of the Fellowship Programme is to enhance participants’ understanding of public international law and the Court’s procedures. How? By actively involving them in the Court’s work and allowing them to learn from the best under the guidance of a judge.

As a Judicial Fellow, you’ll be working full-time alongside a Member of the Court and the judge’s primary legal assistant. You’ll get to attend the Court’s public hearings, conduct research, write memorandums on legal questions, and even take on other duties assigned by your judge. It’s a fantastic opportunity to dive deep into the world of law!

The Fellowship lasts for approximately ten months, starting from early September and ending in June of the following year. During this time, you’ll have the chance to meet and collaborate with up to 15 participants from different universities around the globe. It’s a truly international experience!

Eligibility requirements

Now, let’s talk about the eligibility requirements. Universities are encouraged to nominate candidates who have excelled in their legal studies and have shown a keen interest in public international law through their studies, publications, or work experience. Fluency in English or French is a must, and having a working knowledge of the second official language is a bonus.

To be eligible, candidates should be 31 years old or younger when the Fellowship begins. However, the Court may make exceptions in special circumstances. The Court also values diversity, so candidates from all nationalities are welcome.

While it’s possible to nominate just one candidate, the Court actually encourages universities to propose more than one nominee. So, gather your fellow law enthusiasts and apply together!

• All applications must be complete by this deadline.
• The Court will to reach its final decision by April 2024.
