We have got some exciting news to share with you! The Michael Elliott Award for Excellence in African Storytelling is now accepting entries, and we couldn’t be happier about it! The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), the ONE Campaign, and the Elliott family are teaming up to honor up-and-coming journalists in Africa who are passionate about amplifying people’s voices and shedding light on the incredible transformation happening on the continent. it comes with a $5,000 grant & Internship at The Economist’s HQ in London, UK

  • To be eligible for this prestigious award, you need to be an English-speaking journalist working in Africa for print, broadcast, or online news media.
  • Don’t worry if you’re just starting out, as long as you have no more than 10 years of journalism experience, you’re good to go!
  • Now, here’s the exciting part. We’re looking for that one published piece that truly captures the essence of Africa through thoughtful reporting and excellent storytelling.
  • We want to see groundbreaking investigative or explanatory work that showcases the transformative changes happening in Africa. So, if you’ve got an impactful story to share, this is your chance to shine!

Eligibility

  • Make sure your published story or broadcast clip was released between December 1, 2022, and December 1, 2023.
  • If it’s in a language other than English, don’t worry, just include an English translation along with your submission.
  • We welcome entries from print, broadcast, and digital journalists, so feel free to submit your work in any format that best showcases your talent.
