Huawei Global App Innovation Contest (“Apps UP”) is now open: up to $1 million in prize money
The Huawei Global App Innovation Contest (“Apps UP” for short) is a global event held by Huawei that pools the skills of developers from around the world to build an app ecosystem that intelligently connects everything. It aims to inspire developers to innovate, bring together people, devices, and scenarios, and create consistent app experiences while exploring a seamless AI experience.
The contest will be held in Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America, Middle East & Africa, and China. Huawei has set aside more than US$1 million as prize money for the contest.
The global competition under the theme “Together we innovate” aims to strengthen the skills of regional app developers and drive collaboration to build a connected app ecosystem. The contest is grouped into five regions: Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, Middle East and Africa, and China. The company has set aside $1 million as prize money to be shared among winners in various categories which include:
- Best App
- Best Game
- Best Social Impact App
- Best Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) Innovation Award
- Tech Women’s Award
- All-Scenario Coverage Award
- AppGallery Rising Star App
- Student Innovation Award
- Most popular App
Winners will pocket between $3,000 and $15,000 in cash prizes. “The Apps UP competition is in line with Huawei’s efforts to empower developers from the Arab world and to inspire new ideas. Through the Best Arabic App category, we aim to encourage talents within the regional app development communities to create locally-relevant digital solutions that can have a global impact.” Said Ammar Tobba, VP, Public Affairs and Communications, Huawei Middle East Region, Director of Arabic Media Centre.

Preliminary
The judging panel will review the submitted works, and select 30 works from each region for the public review and finals stages.
Public review
Shortlisted works will be showcased for global promotion, on both the contest’s official website and AppGallery by midnight on November 20 (UTC+8). The public rating score for each work is based on the number of votes they receive.
Regional finals
Each region will hold its own final in December. The judging panel will rank the 30 shortlisted works according to a comprehensive scoring formula, in which the judging panel, public rating, and HMS integration scores are added.
