Google Summer of Code 2024 Mentor Organization Applications – Now Open

We are pleased to announce that open source projects and organizations now have the opportunity to apply as mentor organizations in the 2024 Google Summer of Code (GSoC) program. The deadline for organization applications is February 6, 2024 at 18:00 UTC.

As we enter our 20th year of Google Summer of Code, we are excited to celebrate this significant milestone. In 2024, we are introducing a third project size option, which you can find more information about in our official announcement blog post.

Is your open source project interested in becoming a mentor organization? Visit the program site and refer to the mentor guide to understand the responsibilities and preparations required to be a mentor organization. It is essential to have enthusiastic and dedicated mentors, as well as well-planned project ideas to ensure a successful experience.

We welcome organizations of all types and are particularly eager to involve first-time mentor organizations in GSoC. We encourage new organizations to seek referrals from experienced organizations that believe they would be a suitable fit for participating in GSoC.

The open source projects that participate in GSoC as mentor organizations cover a wide range of fields, including AI/ML, security, cloud, development tools, science, medicine, data, media, and more! These projects can vary in age, from relatively new ones that are about 2 years old to well-established projects that have been around for over 20 years. We embrace open source projects of all sizes, from small initiatives to large-scale endeavors.

We are actively seeking to incorporate more open source projects in the AI/ML field into GSoC 2024. If your project falls under the domains of artificial intelligence or machine learning, we encourage you to engage with your community and gauge their interest in participating in GSoC 2024.

It is crucial to note that open source projects applying for GSoC must have a strong and inclusive community. The primary objective of GSoC is to introduce new contributors to well-established and welcoming communities. While there is no specific requirement for the number of community members, the project should have more than just a handful of individuals involved.

Starting today, you can submit your application to become a mentor organization for GSoC on the program site. Visit the application portal and click on Register your organization
The deadline for applications is February 6, 2024, at 18:00 UTC.
The selected organizations for GSoC 2024 will be publicly announced on February 21st.
