VivaTech is hosting the third edition of the Vivatech AfricaTech Awards, a pan-African initiative that celebrates and empowers startups making a positive impact in key sectors such as Climate Tech, Health Tech, E-commerce, and FinTech.

Startups play a crucial role in addressing global challenges and driving sustainable development. Despite growing interest from investors, many startups in Africa face challenges in securing the necessary funding to grow. The AfricaTech Awards by VivaTech aim to open doors for emerging startups on the continent, offering networking opportunities and mentorship with tech leaders, investors, policymakers, and institutions to support the brightest African innovators shaping the future.

Key Sectors Vivatech AfricaTech Awards

Climate Tech Challenge – Solutions that can reduce emissions, protect the environment, and help communities become more climate resilient.
E-commerce & FinTech Challenge – Solutions that can contribute to economic development of African countries in the areas of e-commerce, and finance.
Health Tech Challenge – Solutions that can expand access to healthcare among underserved communities, reduce the cost of services, and boost innovation in the healthcare sector.

Impact: Demonstrated success in tackling critical societal or environmental challenges through the product or solution.

Innovation: Evaluation of the tech solution’s relevance and level of innovation in comparison to existing options, considering factors such as size, problem-solving capabilities, technology utilized, and intellectual property protection.

Scalability: Assessment of the startup’s potential for growth and expansion in the market, including market size, scalability prospects, previous track record of scaling, target market segments, geographic reach within the continent, and customer base.

Team profile: Analysis of the team’s expertise, experience, and diversity, taking into account factors such as the number of team members, their levels of expertise, entrepreneurial and academic backgrounds, and overall skill set.

Business model: Examination of the business model’s ability to meet market needs effectively, considering the quality and size of the team, their expertise, entrepreneurial and academic backgrounds, number of employees, and other relevant factors.

Eligibility Requirements Vivatech AfricaTech Awards

– Conducting operations in Africa: the majority of the team must be located in Africa and/or serving African markets
– Offering a solution or product that caters to the African market
– Having secured funding of at least USD 200K but no more than USD 20M
– Focusing on one of the specified themes: Climate Tech, E-commerce, FinTech, or Health Tech.
