Entries Open For the IAS Media Scholarship Programme For Journalists And Online Content Creators. (Funded To Germany)

The INTERNATIONAL AIDS SOCIETY (IAS) Media Scholarship Programme is now accepting applications from journalists, media specialists, and online content creators. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of the conference. There are three categories for applicants to choose from:

Category 1:

This category is open to journalists, photographers, and videographers who are either employed by or on assignment for a recognized media outlet. This includes print, radio, broadcast, or online consumer, medical, community-based, or HIV service organization-sponsored media outlets.

Category 2:

Communications professionals who work for non-profit HIV research, advocacy, or policy organizations can apply under this category. Their work should directly support media coverage of presentations at AIDS 2024. Applications in this category will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and each organization can submit a maximum of three applications.

Category 3:

Social media influencers who have made significant contributions to the field of HIV and/or public health, or those who have strong connections with key populations, can apply under this category. To be eligible, influencers must have a following of over 50,000 on platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, or YouTube.

Scholarship Benefits

Recipients of the IAS Media Scholarship will be provided with the following benefits, based on their needs as stated in the application:

Access to both in-person and virtual attendance: You will have the opportunity to attend all sessions at the conference venue and also access the virtual platform.
Travel support: We will cover the cost of a pre-paid economy class return ticket from the nearest international airport in your country of residence. This will be for the duration of the conference and pre-conferences.
Accommodation: You will be provided with a single room in a budget hotel for the entire duration of the conference and pre-meetings.
Daily living allowance: We will provide you with a daily living allowance for the duration of the conference and pre-conferences.

Please note that the AIDS 2024 Media Scholarship Programme does not reimburse any costs incurred before receiving the scholarship. Therefore, we advise you to avoid pre-booking accommodation and flights or registering for the conference if you have requested financial support in your application. If you are selected for the scholarship and your requested financial support is granted, we will not be able to reimburse you for these costs.

Scholarship Evaluation

Priority will be given to media scholarship applicants who meet the following criteria:

Work for national or international top-tier media outlets with a wide regional, national, or international reach, regardless of the medium.
Have a proven history of covering HIV and/or infectious diseases. We encourage both scientific and broader reporting.
Are based in resource-limited settings or represent target countries/regions of interest. This includes South and Southeast Asia; Latin America and the Caribbean; the Middle East and North Africa; central, eastern, western, and southern Africa; and eastern Europe and central Asia.
