Entries open for the AFRICACDC-Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Fellowship Programme

The Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Fellowship Programme is now accepting applications for its 4th Cohort. The Africa CDC is committed to promoting diversity and encourages applicants from all African Union Member States. This cohort will introduce a Mental Health track, so Public Mental Health Professionals are strongly encouraged to apply. Additionally, women in senior positions within Government Ministries and National Public Health Institutes (NPHIs) are also encouraged to apply.

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) – Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Programme was launched by the African Union Commission in partnership with the Kofi Annan Foundation. It aims to develop senior public health professionals from African Union Member States who will lead the implementation of a new public health order for Africa and mentor the next generation of public health leaders.

To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must be citizens of an African Union Member State, hold a postgraduate degree in a relevant field of public health, have at least 10 years of professional experience in any area of public health, be employed full-time in a public or private institution in Africa, and have a track record or potential for effective public health leadership.

Selected fellows will receive all learning and development materials, as well as have their travel, daily allowance, and insurance covered during the residential placements.

Fellowship Details

The Fellowship offers a comprehensive 12-month program that focuses on advanced public health leadership. During this time, fellows will gain valuable skills in health diplomacy, change management, and policy influence, among others. They will receive guidance and support from experienced experts in Africa and the diaspora.

By the end of the program, fellows will have developed a range of skills, including competent leadership styles that empower others to achieve multidimensional health goals. They will also be able to create strategic visions for positive health outcomes, possess globally competent leadership attributes, and navigate the complexities of public health practice. Additionally, fellows will gain expertise in health politics, negotiation, partnerships, and health diplomacy.

The Fellowship will utilize a hybrid learning approach, combining self-directed learning with various interactive methods. Fellows will engage in webinars, keynote lectures, online self-directed study, case studies, and an individual leadership challenge project. They will also have the opportunity to spend up to eight weeks in residential placements as a cohort. The remaining training period will be completed in their home country, allowing fellows to continue their regular work responsibilities while completing assigned courses and the leadership challenge project. Each fellow will be paired with experienced mentors and coaches to provide ongoing support and guidance.

To confirm your employment and guarantee a position after the fellowship (for at least one year), we are pleased to provide you with a supporting letter. This will allow you the necessary time to fully participate in the program.

Personal Statement:
In order to demonstrate your commitment to public health on the continent, we require a personal statement. This will serve as evidence of your dedication and passion for making a difference in the field.

Leadership Project Proposal:
As part of the fellowship, you will be required to complete a leadership project within a 12-month period. This project proposal should outline your ideas and plans for making a positive impact in the field of public health.
