Entries now open for the Commonwealth Ocean Champions Competition
The 2024 Commonwealth Ocean Champions Competition is now accepting applications. On August 12, the Blue Charter Ocean Youth Working Group initiated a virtual ocean hackathon and symposium in celebration of International Youth Day.
This working group invites young individuals from across the Commonwealth to present their innovative ideas for a chance to receive funding to support the execution of their projects. Established at COP28 in December 2023, the youth group actively involves young people from the 56 Commonwealth nations in discussions regarding ocean and climate change issues.
Eligibility Criteria – Commonwealth Ocean Champions Competition
- The Commonwealth Ocean Champions Competition is Open to individuals aged 15 to 29 from Commonwealth nations.
- Applications for the Commonwealth Ocean Champions Competition can be submitted by individuals or teams through the completion of the application form.
- Participants must develop a solution addressing at least one challenge from the Commonwealth Blue Charter action areas.
- Membership in the Blue Charter Ocean Youth Working Group is required.
Program Information – Commonwealth Ocean Champions Competition
- Winners in the Commonwealth Ocean Champions Competition will be revealed during the Ocean Symposium at the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa and COP29 in Azerbaijan.
- Additionally, Commonwealth Ocean Champions Competition winners will be expected to provide a blog post with accompanying photos at three, six, and nine-month intervals following their victory to document their progress.
