Elevate: Women’s Solar Installation Certification Course – Open for Applications

Power Africa is an initiative led by the United States government that unites the combined efforts of over 200 partners from the public and private sectors. Its primary objective is to increase access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa by doubling the current levels. By 2030, Power Africa aims to introduce over 30,000 MW of new electricity generation capacity and provide power to 60 million additional homes and businesses across the continent. In Nigeria, Power Africa’s signature initiative, known as PA-NPSP, focuses on supporting comprehensive power sector reform, creating a more favorable environment for development, and attracting increased private sector investment. The ultimate goal is to ensure affordable, reliable, and equitable access to power in Nigeria.

The Women’s Solar Installation Certification Course (WSICC) is a three-week training program designed to equip participants with technical and vocational skills. The course aims to provide individuals with the necessary knowledge to sit for the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) Solar Photovoltaic Installation Certification examination. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to engage in Training of Trainers sessions, ensuring the sustainable transfer of knowledge within marginalized communities.

Women’s Solar Installation Certification Course (WSICC) – APPLICATION SEGMENTS

Please be aware that there are two important sections that need to be completed for this application process. The first section, Segment 1, should take approximately 20 to 30 minutes to finish. The second section, Segment 2, should be submitted after 20 minutes of opening the competency assessment page.

Segment 1

Segment 1 requires you to accurately fill in your information as requested and click on the “Submit” button at the end of the application form.

Once you have clicked on “Submit,” you will be redirected to a submission acknowledgment page. On this page, you will find a link to the competency assessment page. Please click on this link to complete the second segment of the application. It is important to note that the application will be considered incomplete if the competency assessment in Segment 2 is not completed.

Segment 2 – Competency Assessment

On Page 1 of this segment, you are required to provide your name and email address. Please ensure that you enter the same information that you provided in Segment 1.

Moving on to Page 2, you will find a Competency Assessment Test. It is important to complete and submit this assessment within 20 minutes.

Women’s Solar Installation Certification Course (WSICC) Target Audience:

This program is specifically designed for women in the energy sector who are looking to transition into or advance in solar energy technical fields. It is also open to women who are not currently in the energy sector but have a keen interest in entering the sector and taking up technical roles in the renewable energy subsector.

Women’s Solar Installation Certification Course (WSICC) Application Process:

In order to successfully complete the application, applicants must:

1. Complete their application within five days of the launch of the application link or before 30 successful candidates are reached.
2. Answer basic competency questions, which may include arithmetic and logical reasoning.
3. Submit only one application, as multiple applications will result in disqualification.
4. Provide the name and contact information of at least one referee (supervisor or mentor) who can vouch for the candidate’s interest, commitment, and suitability for the training. This information should be provided in the application form.

Women’s Solar Installation Certification Course (WSICC) Selection Criteria:

Applicants will be selected on a first-come-first-served basis, using the following criteria:

1. Successful and timely submission of the application form will be considered during the screening process.
2. Applicants must score at least 70 percent on the competency test.
3. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to transferring knowledge and skills to others by implementing training in their place of work or community after completing the course.
4. Applicants will be required to take a compulsory COREN certification examination at the end of the training. This examination will be conducted during the last week of the three-week training.

Women’s Solar Installation Certification Course (WSICC) – QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum educational requirement: Senior School Certificate Exam (SSCE).
Must have the ability to comprehend, read, converse, and write basic English Language.
Must have the ability to solve basic arithmetic problems (Science/Engineering background or experience is an added advantage but not mandatory).
Basic computer skills/literacy are necessary for computer-based examinations.

Women’s Solar Installation Certification Course (WSICC) ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for this course, you must meet the following criteria:

You must be a Nigerian woman who can attend a three-week (Monday to Friday) training in Abuja from 4 March – 22 March 2024, between 9am to 4pm daily.
You must be 18 years of age or older.
You must be employed or self-employed in the energy sector OR unemployed and interested in entering the energy sector.
You must have a genuine interest in acquiring and implementing new technical skills within the clean energy sector.
