Components of the Creativity and Innovation: Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence Scheme
The scheme offers a unique opportunity for passionate and experienced industrial scientists and entrepreneurs to dedicate one day a week at a university, working on a tailored project to:
– Introduce university staff and students to the latest industrial research and development, as well as the scientific challenges encountered by the industry
– Provide guidance and expert advice to encourage innovation and the application of research findings by universities
– Foster confidence and knowledge in business and entrepreneurship among university staff and students
– Offer career recognition to the recipients of the award and support their professional growth
Eligibility for the Creativity and Innovation: Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence Scheme
Eligibility for the scheme is open to individuals of any nationality who are permitted to work in the UK throughout the award period. Applicants should have a background in science and engineering, along with substantial experience in industrial research. Additionally, they should possess expertise in one or more of the following areas:
– Managing collaborations between universities and businesses, as well as translating and commercializing research outcomes
– Entrepreneurship, including establishing and expanding companies, securing investments, etc.
– Training, coaching, or mentoring
Applicants may be employed on a full-time, part-time, or self-employed basis.
Benefits of the Creativity and Innovation: Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence Scheme
The EiR awards span two years, with a maximum value of £25,000 per year (inclusive of VAT where applicable). This funding is intended to cover expenses such as:
The award holder will receive a salary equivalent to 0.2 FTE of their current salary to dedicate 20% of their working time at the host organization. Only the basic salary of the EiR will be covered during the secondment, while their employer will still be responsible for national insurance and pension contributions. Additionally, travel expenses for the award holder to commute to and from the host, as well as accommodation if necessary, will be covered. Project costs aimed at supporting the project plan’s objectives, including conference attendance, meetings, workshops, and training, can also be included in the funding.
Application Process for the Creativity and Innovation: Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence Scheme
- All submissions must be made via the Society’s grant management platform, Flexi-Grant®. The Industry Fellowship panel will evaluate the applications.
