Commonwealth Split-site (PhD) Scholarships for Study in the UK (Fully Funded)

Funded by the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Commonwealth Split-site Scholarships are here to make dreams come true! These scholarships are designed to give talented and motivated individuals the chance to gain the knowledge and skills they need for sustainable development. And guess what? They’re specifically for those who wouldn’t be able to afford to study in the UK otherwise. How amazing is that?

So, here’s the deal. If you’re a PhD scholar studying at an eligible university across the Commonwealth, you have the incredible opportunity to conduct research at a UK institute for a whole year. Yep, you heard it right, a whole year of immersing yourself in the UK’s equipment and expertise. Talk about an adventure!

But wait, there’s more! These scholarships have a bigger purpose. They aim to widen access to UK equipment and expertise for high-quality doctoral candidates from low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries. Not only that, but they also want to contribute to UK and Commonwealth higher education and research through collaboration and partnerships. It’s all about working together to make a difference.

Now, let’s talk about who can apply for these scholarships. We’re looking for high-quality graduates who have a passion for research with a developmental focus. We want individuals who have the potential to become influential teachers or researchers in their home countries. If that sounds like you, then keep reading!

To be eligible, you must be a citizen of an eligible Commonwealth country or have been granted refugee status. You should also be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country. Oh, and don’t forget, you need to be registered for a PhD at a university in an eligible Commonwealth country by September 2023. We want to make sure you’re ready to dive into this incredible opportunity!

But here’s the catch, we need to see a strong link between your home university and the UK university you’re proposing. It’s not just about individual collaborations, we want to see a solid institutional or departmental link. Both supervisors must provide a supporting statement that explains this link in detail. We want to make sure your application is eligible and ready to go!

If you’re selected, you’ll need to be available to start your academic studies in the UK in September 2023. So mark your calendars and get ready for an exciting journey ahead!

Each Scholarship comes with some amazing benefits! Here’s what you can expect:

  • We’ll cover your airfare from your home country to the UK and back when your award is confirmed. Sorry, we can’t reimburse the cost of fares for your dependants or any journeys made before your award is confirmed.
  • Don’t worry about tuition fees, because we’ve got you covered! The CSC and the UK university have an agreement to cover your full fees. You won’t have to pay a single penny towards your tuition.
  • You’ll also receive a stipend (living allowance) every month. If you’re studying in the London metropolitan area, you’ll get £1,516 per month. For those outside of London, it’s still a generous £1,236 per month. Enjoy!
  • We even have a warm clothing allowance for you, if applicable. Stay cozy and stylish during your time in the UK.
  • Need to travel for study-related purposes? We’ve got your back! You’ll receive a study travel grant to help with the cost of travel within the UK or even overseas.
  • If you’re a widowed, divorced, or a single parent, we understand the challenges you face. That’s why we provide a child allowance of £529 per month for your first child, and £131 per month for your second and third child under the age of 16. As long as you and your children are living together at the same address in the UK, we’ve got you covered.

Now, let’s talk about the selection process. We’ll consider your application based on a few criteria:

  • Your academic merit is important to us. We want to see your potential and how well you’ve performed academically.
  • The quality of your plan of study is also crucial. Show us your passion and dedication to your chosen field.
  • Lastly, we’ll take into account the potential impact you can make on the development of your home country. We believe in your ability to make a difference.
