The application period for the 2025 Chevening Scholarship -UK Government Scholarships Programme is now open. Chevening Scholarships are designed to empower exceptional emerging leaders from around the globe to undertake one-year master’s degree programs in the United Kingdom. Eligibility Criteria – Chevening Scholarship UK Government Scholarships Programme

  1. To qualify for a Chevening Scholarship UK Government Scholarships Programme, applicants must:
  2. Be a citizen of a country or territory eligible for Chevening Scholarship.
  3. Commit to returning to their home country for a minimum of two years following the completion of the scholarship.
  4. Possess at least two years of work experience (equivalent to 2,800 hours).
  5. Hold an undergraduate degree that meets the requirements for a UK master’s program.
  6. Apply to three different and eligible courses at UK universities. It is essential to receive an unconditional offer from at least one of these selected courses by the deadline for references and educational documents as outlined in the application timeline.

  1. To be eligible for the Chevening Scholarship UK Government Scholarships Programme, you must possess British citizenship or dual British citizenship, unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or hold British National (Overseas) status while applying from Hong Kong.
  2. Additionally, if you hold refugee status in a country that is not eligible for Chevening, you may still qualify for a scholarship if you are a citizen of an eligible country and hold refugee status in another eligible nation.
  3. Furthermore, individuals who are current or former employees, or relatives of employees, of the UK government, British Embassies or High Commissions, the British Council, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, or sponsoring UK universities are also eligible to apply.
  4. However, if the employment occurred within the last two years, you will not be able to receive a Chevening Partner Award from the organization with which you are currently or were previously employed, or to which you are related.
  5. Lastly, having already obtained a master’s degree does not disqualify you from applying for a second master’s degree in the UK, provided you can clearly demonstrate how it aligns with your professional aspirations and contributes to positive developments in your home country.

Benefits – Chevening Scholarship UK Government Scholarships Programme

The Chevening Scholarship- UK Government Scholarships Programme offers a customized engagement initiative that facilitates networking opportunities for scholars, alumni, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), distinguished speakers, and partner organizations. Recipients of the award are entitled to the following benefits:

– Coverage of tuition fees
– Economy travel arrangements to and from the recipient’s country of residence via an approved route, applicable solely to the awardee
– An allowance upon arrival
– Payment for the entry clearance (visa) application, applicable solely to the awardee
– A departure allowance
– A contribution of up to £75 for tuberculosis testing, if required
– An additional travel allowance
– A monthly personal living stipend to assist with accommodation and living costs. The amount of the monthly stipend varies based on whether the recipient is studying within or outside of London, and these rates are subject to annual review.

Application Timeline – Chevening Scholarship – UK Government Scholarships Programme

6 August 2024: Applications for the Chevening Scholarship – UK Government Scholarships Programme will be available starting at 12:00 BST.
5 November 2024: The application period will close at 11:59 UTC/GMT.
From 6 November 2024: Applications will be evaluated based on eligibility criteria.
Mid-November 2024 to January 2025:
Assessment by reading committees: Independent committees will review all eligible applications, providing scores and rankings that will be forwarded to local British embassies and high commissions.
Mid-February 2025: Shortlisted candidates for interviews
Following the review of applications by the embassy or high commission, a shortlist of candidates selected for interviews will be created. Notifications will be sent out accordingly. Congratulations to those who reach this stage. To prepare for the interview, please consult the interview guidance.

19 February 2025: Deadline for references and educational documents
Candidates for the Chevening UK Government Scholarships Programme who have been shortlisted will be required to submit two references along with their educational documents before their interview date.

26 February to 25 April 2025: Interview period
Candidates from around the globe will be interviewed by panels at British embassies and high commissions.

From June 2025: Announcement of results
After a period of preparation and anticipation, successful candidates will celebrate when the interview results are announced starting in June.

11 July 2025: Deadline for offers
Candidates must receive and submit at least one unconditional offer from a UK university by 17:00 BST on 11 July 2025.

September/October 2025: Commencement of studies in the UK
The 2025/2026 Chevening UK Government Scholarships Programme will begin their studies in the UK, joining an international network that they will remain a part of for the entirety of their lives.
