Call for Proposals – Plan International Nigeria Youth Support Fund

Plan International, established more than 75 years ago, was created with the purpose of advocating for and safeguarding the rights of children. It was founded in 1937 by British journalist John Langdon-Davies and refugee worker Eric Muggeridge, in response to the upheaval caused by the Spanish Civil War. Initially, their focus was on providing essential necessities such as food, shelter, and education to children affected by the conflict. Langdon-Davies introduced the concept of a personal connection between a child and a sponsor, which remains at the core of our work, placing the child as the central figure. Today, Plan International operates globally, working in over 70 countries to advance children’s rights and promote gender equality, particularly for girls.

Recently, Plan International Nigeria has updated its Country Strategy for the period FY2024-FY2028, in line with the Plan Global Strategy launched in 2022. The new Country Strategy, titled “Girls are empowered to take action and drive change,” outlines the organization’s focus for the next five years and incorporates key changes in organizational objectives that align with its membership journey.

As part of this strategy, Plan Nigeria aims to impact 20 million girls, enabling them to LEARN, LEAD, DECIDE, AND THRIVE, while fostering strong and strategic partnerships with youth groups. To emphasize the significance of youth involvement in catalyzing this transformation, we are pleased to announce an open call for proposals to support youth-led organizations in Nigeria. This initiative aims to empower young leaders, particularly girls and social entrepreneurs, who are actively addressing issues related to women and girls.

Focusing on the youth is crucial for various reasons:

1. Fresh Perspectives and Innovation: Young people often bring new ideas and creative solutions to complex issues, which can help in changing negative social norms.
2. Long-Term Impact: Supporting youth initiatives can have a lasting effect as they continue to contribute to their communities over time.
