Call for entries: HumAngle Accountability Fellowship Programme 2024 for young Nigerians

The HumAngle Accountability Fellowship Programme 2024 for young Nigerians is a six-month program that selects successful fellows based on their self-designed projects or proposals. It provides resources, training, and mentorship to help develop these projects and bring them to life.

Applicants are required to focus their projects or research proposals on specific thematic areas within Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states. These areas include

• accountability in the security and humanitarian sectors,
• climate security,
• education,
• sexual and gender-based violence
• transitional justice.

The HumAngle Accountability Fellowship is a fantastic opportunity for young professionals to kickstart their careers and make a difference in these important fields. By participating in the program, fellows gain valuable knowledge and skills that will help them make informed career choices and become emerging leaders and change-makers.

The fellowship program is managed by the HumAngle Foundation, which ensures a fair and competitive application process. The goal is to identify exceptional individuals who are passionate about implementing and advancing their self-designed projects professionally.

Requirements

• The HumAngle Accountability Fellowship is seeking nine (9) young, passionate individuals from these areas to undergo a 6-month programme with us.
• Fellows must be interested in either investigation and storytelling, advocacy at the grassroots, and conducting ground-breaking research or all of the above.

Requirements: 

• Applicants must be indigenes of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe and will be required to carry out their assignments in the senatorial districts of their projects.
• Applicants must be aged between 22 and 30.
• Applicants must possess at least a Diploma degree.
• Applicants must demonstrate passion in the thematic areas and show a track record of work.
• Applicants should be residents in their place of assignment; otherwise, they should be willing to relocate at their own expense.
• Applicants must be familiar with the region if they do not reside there.
• Women are strongly encouraged to apply for this fellowship.
• Applicants must send a 250-word personal essay alongside a 500-word self-designed project essay. The essay should state why the applicant is interested in the fellowship and what they expect to gain from it. The project essay must clearly outline how the applicant intends to carry out the activities and why the project is important to the community. The project essay title should indicate the thematic area under which the project falls.
• The application requires two letters of recommendation and a resume.

Benefits:

• Fellows will receive monthly training and mentorship from industry leaders while they begin to test the viability of their respective projects in the field.
• Fellows will be provided with a monthly stipend to support their fieldwork and cover the cost of transportation and data/communication.
• Fellows become freelancers for HumAngle after the duration of the fellowship, if they wish, and will be paid in that capacity each time their work is published.
• Fellows will be awarded certificates at the end of the fellowship.
• Fellows will be provided with wider professional networks to pursue their goals.
• Fellows will have monthly conversations with exceptional individuals who have excelled in their careers.
• Fellows will get referrals from HumAngle for a wide range of opportunities, and outstanding fellows will be invited as facilitators for subsequent cohorts.
• Fellows who contribute articles and reports and do so diligently and professionally may be considered for a full-time or part-time role in HumAngle newsroom.

4. At the end of the fellowship, fellows will be awarded certificates to recognize their achievements and the skills they have developed during the program.

5. The fellowship provides fellows with access to wider professional networks, opening up new opportunities for them to pursue their goals and expand their connections in their respective fields.

6. Fellows will have the chance to engage in monthly conversations with exceptional individuals who have excelled in their careers. This provides a unique opportunity for learning and inspiration.

7. Outstanding fellows may be invited as facilitators for subsequent cohorts, showcasing their expertise and contributing to the growth of future fellows.

8. Fellows who demonstrate professionalism and dedication by contributing articles and reports may be considered for full-time or part-time roles in the HumAngle newsroom. This offers the potential for long-term career opportunities.

Commitment:

1. Fellows must maintain good moral character and have no record of criminal misconduct.

2. It is important for fellows to attend all training sessions and submit monthly reports detailing their activities. In case of any unforeseen circumstances, fellows should inform the facilitators to arrange a grace period.

3. Fellows must ensure that their self-designed projects are original ideas, reflecting their creativity and innovation.

4. Fellows should have a good understanding of their projects and the environment in which they will be implemented. This knowledge will contribute to the success of their initiatives.

5. Fellows are expected to continue their work on accountability even after the program ends. This includes undertaking step-down training in their respective communities and actively promoting transparency and responsibility.
