CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: UNITAR’S ENTREPRENEUSHIP AND INNOVATION PROGRAM

UNITAR is currently accepting applications for its training programme titled “Entrepreneurship and Innovation: Promoting Food Security and Economic Development in Egypt, Iraq, and Lebanon.” This programme is specifically designed for young entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 45 in these three countries. By focusing on food security, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of both fundamental and advanced entrepreneurship concepts, enabling them to contribute to economic development and combat food insecurity.

The training programme is scheduled to take place from June 2024 to March 2025, with the application deadline set for 30 June 2024. It is important to note that the programme will be conducted in English. Upon successful completion of the course and meeting all requirements, participants will receive a UNITAR certificate of completion.

It is worth mentioning that the training programme is completely free of charge, thanks to the generous financial support from the Government and People of Japan. This opportunity provides young entrepreneurs in Egypt, Iraq, and Lebanon with the necessary knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in their respective communities.

PHASES OF THE PROGRAM

Phase 1 (July to October 2024): Around 100 participants will engage in online training sessions focused on key entrepreneurship topics. These sessions will cover the basics of entrepreneurship and agribusiness, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to identify potential business opportunities in their respective contexts. The training will consist of self-paced online courses, peer-to-peer discussions, assignments, and webinars conducted by regional and international experts in the field.

Phase 2 (October to December 2024): Approximately 20 participants who have demonstrated exceptional performance will undergo training on entrepreneurial tools, techniques, and best practices. The aim is to empower them to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to address food security challenges. These solutions may include climate-smart agricultural and aquacultural practices to overcome environmental constraints.

Phase 3 (December 2024 to March 2025): The top 10 performers from Phase 2 will focus on developing comprehensive blueprints for novel enterprises or projects within the agrifood sector. These blueprints will have significant potential for job creation and resilience-building. This phase will involve online mentorship and coaching, and there may also be an intensive workshop conducted either online or in person. The specific details for this phase are yet to be finalized.

ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION PROCESS forthe UNITAR’S ENTREPRENEUSHIP AND INNOVATION PROGRAM

The program is open to motivated entrepreneurs from Egypt, Iraq, and Lebanon who meet the following criteria:

1. Passionate about succeeding and making a positive impact on their communities.
2. Proficient in spoken and written English.
3. Committed to completing the program.
4. Possess work experience or have an interest in agribusiness, food security, or general entrepreneurship.
5. Fall within the age range of 18-45.
6. Able to dedicate a minimum of 2-4 hours per week throughout the program.
