This initiative will concentrate on renewable energy technologies that offer sustainable, accessible, and decentralized solutions, thereby diminishing reliance on fossil fuels and enhancing energy security for communities throughout Africa.

The Timbuktoo Greentech hub Energy Accelerator Programme is designed to support startups that are pioneering innovative solutions in renewable energy generation, storage, access, and energy efficiency, specifically tailored to meet the unique challenges faced by the African continent. The ultimate goal is to contribute to a more sustainable and prosperous future for the region.

Eligibility Criteria – Timbuktoo Greentech hub Energy Accelerator Programme

Innovative founders and entrepreneurs from Africa who are currently establishing startups that fulfill the following requirements:

– Founders must be citizens of an African nation.
– Startups must be legally registered and operational within Africa.
– Startups should have been in operation for at least three years.
– Startups must tackle developmental challenges.
– Solutions must be technology-driven.
– Startups must possess a Minimum Viable Solution (MVS), which should be regulated and licensed if applicable.
– Startups should have established corporate governance frameworks and accountability measures.
– This application process is restricted to citizens of African Union Member States.

Criteria 

The Timbuktoo Greentech hub Energy Accelerator Programme aims to support innovative growth stage enterprises that meet the following key criteria:

  1. Technology-Enabled Solution: Your startup must have a technology-enabled solution at its core, utilising digital tools and platforms to drive innovation and efficiency in the financial sector.
  2. Contribution Towards the SDGs: Your solution should align with and contribute towards one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, addressing pressing global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and more.
  3. High Scalability: Your startup should demonstrate high scalability either through digital distribution channels or the ability to scale sales rapidly across markets.
  4. Defensible Position: Your startup should have a defensible position, whether through Intellectual Property (IP) rights, network effects, domain expertise, or regional market dominance, ensuring sustainable competitive advantage in the Greentech landscape.
  5. Innovation and uniqueness: Novel approach to solving energy challenges, potential for disruptive impact in the renewable energy sector.
  6. Technical feasibility: Sound scientific/technical basis for the solution, realistic development timeline.
  7. Regulatory compliance: Awareness of relevant energy regulations, strategy for obtaining necessary approvals.

  2. Bootcamp: Mid-November 2024 (Attendance in Nairobi, Kenya)
  3. Hybrid Acceleration: January – June 2025
