The SMALL PROJECT AND SUPPORT FUND (SPSF) PROGRAM FUNDING is dedicated to empowering communities to take action and engage in their own development through initiatives that are planned, executed, and managed by the communities themselves.
This announcement of the Small Project and Support Fund Program Funding invites applications for funding for projects that offer immediate responses to Human Rights violations (Component 2) in South Africa, such as legal aid and community mobilization. The primary goal of these activities is to empower disadvantaged communities. Applicants must illustrate the situation prior to the violation and how the rapid response intervention will help restore human rights.
OBJECTIVES – SMALL PROJECT AND SUPPORT FUND PROGRAM FUNDING
• The Small Project and Support Fund Program Funding grant is designed to provide assistance in addressing emergency situations, with a focus on protective measures for vulnerable, marginalized, and impoverished individuals and communities.
• Emergency responses will involve direct community support, which could encompass logistical aid, advocacy efforts, humanitarian aid, access to Sexual Reproductive Health Rights, physical and mental healthcare, guidance on legal matters, and reinforcement of safety networks.
• The Small Project and Support Fund Program Funding call is for projects falling under component 2, with a maximum grant amount of 75,000 ZAR for the 2024/25 financial year. There are no specific geographical restrictions. The maximum duration for implementing emergency activities is 6 weeks.

WHO CAN APPLY = Small Project and Support Fund Program Funding
- Individuals or legally registered non-governmental organizations based in South Africa are eligible to submit applications.
CLOSING DATE FOR THE CALL – SMALL PROJECT AND SUPPORT FUND PROGRAM FUNDING
- The Small Project and Support Fund Program Funding call will remain open until a total of eight (8) projects have been funded for the current financial year. Once this number is reached, the call will automatically close.
EXCLUSIONS – SMALL PROJECT AND SUPPORT FUND PROGRAM FUNDING
– Projects/entities currently receiving support from AIDS Foundation of South Africa (AFSA) during the 1 April 2024/31 March 2025 Financial Year are not eligible to apply for funds from the Ukusekela-SPSF.
– Projects/entities already funded by Bread for the World (BfdW) during the 1 April 2024/31 March 2025 Financial Year cannot be supported through the Ukusekela-SPSF.
– Government-linked entities, entities with an annual budget of more than R1.5m, and entities involved in HIV/AIDS related work are not eligible for funding.
– The Small Project and Support Fund Program Funding grant will not cover stipends/Human Resource related costs, purchase of non-essential equipment, cash flow problems, planned projects/activities/service delivery programs, or top up funding requests.
APPLICATION PROCESS: – SMALL PROJECT AND SUPPORT FUND PROGRAM FUNDING
1. Fill out and submit the ‘Intention to apply form’
2. If selected, the applicant will receive an invitation to submit a complete application along with necessary supporting documents within 24 hours.
3. The complete application will then undergo review by the Approvals committee, who are responsible for reviewing the application within 36 hours.
4. The applicant will receive a response regarding the outcome of their application, and if successful, the project team will engage with the applicant and conduct thorough due diligence.
