Apply now for the Miles Morland Foundation Morland Writing Scholarships

Applications are currently being accepted for the Morland Writing Scholarships offered by the Miles Morland Foundation. Established in 2013 by Miles Morland himself, the foundation aims to support African writers who may find it challenging to balance writing with earning a living. The foundation was created after Morland’s successful career in Africa through his companies Blakeney Management and DPI (Development Partners International).

Scholarships – Miles Morland Foundation Morland Writing Scholarships

  1. The MMF provides a limited number of Morland Writing Scholarships annually to assist writers in producing the first draft of a book.
  2. These scholarships are available to individuals who write in English and were born in Africa, or have both parents born in Africa.

Funding – Miles Morland Foundation Morland Writing Scholarships

  1. Recipients of the scholarship will receive a grant of £18,000, distributed monthly over a period of twelve months.
  2. Scholars working on non-fiction projects that require additional research time may be eligible for an extended grant paid over eighteen months, subject to the Foundation’s discretion.

  1. Candidates must submit an excerpt of their work ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 words in English that has been published and offered for sale.
  2. Proof of publication and availability for sale must be provided with the application. Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of readers and judges appointed by the MMF, focusing solely on the literary quality of the work.
  3. Academic, scientific, religious, or political writings are not eligible for the scholarships.

  1. Scholars are required to write during their Scholarship year.
  2. They must submit a minimum of 10,000 new words each month until their book is completed or the Scholarship term ends.
  3. If the initial draft is finished early, payments will continue while the Scholar refines their work.

– Submit a Word document with 2,000 to 5,000 words of published work.
– Provide proof of publication and sale.
– Include a 400 to 1,000-word description of the new book you plan to write.
– Attach an official document proving African heritage.
