Are you a leading organization dedicated to ensuring equal access to technical and vocational education and training (TVET in Africa) opportunities for all young people in Africa? Do you have specific programs targeting women and girls, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, persons with disabilities, or migrants?

If so, the African Union Commission and the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) encourage you to participate in this exciting competition aimed at identifying, celebrating, and expanding the number of best practices in promoting equitable and inclusive access to TVET across the continent.

Competition Details: AU-NEPAD Competition on innovative and inclusive TVET in Africa

This call for submissions of best practices aims to amplify the voices and experiences of TVET in Africa practitioners and stakeholders throughout Africa who are committed to advancing equity and inclusion. The primary goal of this call is to create a Toolbox containing a “Rich collection of Equitable and Inclusive TVET in Africa resources/” that showcases the best practices that have been collected. By capturing a diverse range of innovative and effective methods, this treasure trove will develop into a more comprehensive resource for promoting inclusion in TVET in Africa across various AU Member States and contexts, supporting their efforts to implement inclusive policies and strategies in their respective countries and providing opportunities for marginalized groups. This process will also contribute to the ongoing review of the Continental TVET Strategy by highlighting emerging trends.

The Collection will be a digital resource hosted on the continental knowledge platform ASPYEE (African Skill Portal for Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship).

This initiative aligns with the African Union’s officially adopted theme for 2024, “Educate an African fit for the 21st century – Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa”.

Eligibility Criteria: AU-NEPAD Competition on innovative and inclusive TVET in Africa

Only organizations operating within Africa are eligible to submit entries. Ideal submissions should focus on youth skills development and employment, and can come from a variety of entities such as public and private colleges, non-profit organizations, training providers, private sector organizations, government departments, and multi-stakeholder projects. Organizations that already have good practices featured on the ASPYEE website are welcome to participate in the competition by completing an application form on the website. This is also an opportunity to update existing good practices with current information. All applicants must use the provided good practice template for their submissions.

Benefits: AU-NEPAD Competition on innovative and inclusive TVET in Africa

All submissions will be reviewed for potential inclusion in a Toolbox containing a diverse collection of Equitable and Inclusive TVET on Africa resources. The top three organizations with the highest ratings will each receive an all-expenses-paid trip for two individuals to Africa Skills Week 2024 in Accra, Ghana from October 14 to 18. This includes travel, accommodation, and meals. If necessary, costs for personal assistants of individuals with disabilities will also be covered, in addition to the expenses for the two representatives from each of the top three organizations.

Africa Skills Week 2024 is organized by the African Union and hosted by the government of Ghana. The event will focus on the theme “Creating jobs for the 21st century: Unleashing the potential of transforming skills development for sustainable employability.”
