Apply now for the 2025/2026 Getty Foundation Scholar Grants
Applications for the 2025/2026 Getty Foundation Scholar Grants are now being accepted. Getty is seeking scholars and arts professionals to apply for a residential fellowship focused on the theme of repair, which transcends time periods, world geographies, and professional practices. The act of repair, situated between creation and destruction, has the power to transform, heal, alter, and renew the material environment.
The Getty Scholars Program aims to support innovative research on art and its histories by providing a platform for international scholars to collaborate across disciplines and professional practices, as well as to reach new audiences for their work. Scholars in residence will be part of a vibrant local community dedicated to advancing knowledge and will have access to the Getty Center or Getty Villa’s extensive library and collections.
The Scholars Program cohort consists of a mix of senior scholars and junior fellows, all of whom will focus their research projects on the annual theme. The three main grant categories are:
- Scholar Grants are available for experienced researchers and professionals who have obtained their PhDs at least 5 years ago and/or have a strong track record of publications and professional activities. These grants are offered at the Getty Center or Getty Villa.
- Postdoctoral Fellowships are available for individuals who have recently completed their PhDs at the Getty Center or Getty Villa.
- Predoctoral Fellowships are available for PhD candidates at the Getty Center.
Eligibility for the Getty Foundation Scholar Grants
- To be eligible for a Scholar Grant, applicants must have completed their PhD before September 1, 2021.
- However, individuals from related fields without a PhD but with equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
- Applicants who received their PhD after September 1, 2021 should apply for a Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Conditions for the Getty Foundation Scholar Grants
Scholar Grant recipients at the Getty Center can stay in residence for three to nine months and will receive stipends as follows:
- – Three-month residency: September–December/January–March; $21,500 stipend
- – Six-month residency: September–March/January–June; $43,000 stipend
- – Nine-month residency: September–June; $65,000 stipend
- Recipients will also receive a relocation stipend of $2,000.
